Curious.. Dynax 7D vs A200

colors wise is no big deal. in the end of the day, you still have go through post processing to tune exposure and colors. what's more important than colors is lighting. poor lighting, you can hardly do anything in post processing unlike colors.

Well, one way to see how it all works out, is to bring all the cameras together and test them side by side in the same lighting condition on the Macbeth Color Checker.

What I realized - is that most of the time, when people are outside shooting in digital, they do it with only one camera body and rarely have the opportunity to see whether another camera is able to produce a more desirable color result in that same situation.

e.g. I've used the A700 extensively for all my works. Thus, I'm used to the color reproduction coming out from my A700 and probably wouldn't want it done by any other camera body.

I've used Canon and Sony cameras extensively in my studio because I have 2 peers with Sony cameras (a100, a700) and 4 peers with Canon (20D, 40D, 50D, 400D), so I have to do settings for them and do test shots and check them. When I put them into identical settings, they produce very similar results - with color variations that aren't too big of a problem when it comes to cameras... the much bigger problem comes when you try to print them.

Color differences across different camera models and brands aren't too great IMHO - until you see the difference between your printers:

You gotta mind your monitor's calibration, mind your color profiles, mind who you print with, mind the printer's machines, mind the paper you print on, make your test prints do your swatches... etc etc (and $$ spent doing tests). Color differences between the cameras suddenly can turn very trivial and small when you start printing your stuff. :sweatsm:

I think we should stop debating which has better colors. This would led us to nowhere and other camps may be laughing at us, A-mounters. To be honest, I have nothing against about Sony, in fact there was a time in previous thread I was seriously considering A900. I really like the skin tone and details IQ of A900 and it has a very good blue color. It has one of the best colors responses among the FF cameras. The only stopping me was the high price tag, some minor WB issues (which of coz can be corrected by PP), missing dial design and the whooping huge file size... Its only matter of time when I would get Sony, it would be the time when Sony gets what I want. I really hope Sony improves and not losing Minolta heritage because I am a genuine A-mounter fan. ;);p:bsmilie:

There's always the A850 for you bro. ;)

i kinda like the a550's performance very good all rounder. but i wished the body would be better built and i read the vf is rather small and dim, but at least its cheap. but im disappointed with the crop lenses that sony curently has :(

haha very interesting debate here.. actually i got one question regarding the 7d, lets say i buy one, will my sony accessories work on it?

Like flash, off camera flash cord, wired remote?

Batteries are definitely different right?

its using CF card too?
any other things I should take note?

Thanks!

Yes, the accessories will work. 7D uses CF like the A200 and yup you right about the battery, they are different.

Can get third party batteries for 7D on the cheap through eBay.

Wondering if it's worth getting the vertical grip for it as well. Hhmmm ...

Definitely, it balances the camera but the battery life tends to suffer as I found out after using this combo for 4 years or so...

Im curious as well, D5D vs D7D.

Hope TS wont mind me hijacking your thread

Haven't used a 5D before but the reviews did say that generally the 5D had better noise characteristics (although still very noisy by today's standards)... it's a great little camera... own an A900 now but still in love with my 7D... the ergonomics have never been matched by any camera manufactured since then...

Im poisoned by 7D. Might change since my friend wants my A230. Sony lens can use right? Since its the same mount

absolutely. Same mounting, as u mentioned :)

Well the trade off is the low light noise and and low light AF... not fast enough... but if you typically don't shoot action shots, take your time to frame and shoot, the 7D is right up your park...

5D ... A200 ... A100 ... and finally a 7D in that order. My journey through the Alpha line up so far. Simply put, I love how it feels in my hands and am looking at restoring it to its complete setup with the vertical grip. One camera I'm pretty sure I won't be selling even when I get that rumoured A750. So many convenient features within easy reach on its body, especially the AF/MF button. Who cares about the 6MP.
