DiamondBack Insight 2 - This Bike Geometry very attractive
Design of top tube does not allow you to carry a passenger in
case you need to (such as in an emergency).
Certainly this Hybrid bike is fast in performance.

For that price with Alivio parts and Avid brake system, could be a good deal
though I haven't check the price of other hybrids with similar components.

From the specs show below it looks quite impressive.

Can your teach which are the parts that you evaluated?

My concern is the Alivio parts
I've rode once on Deore part (rented bike oversea), it felt great
but I am not sure how much of a downgrade will this be

nOelnOel, I won't dare say teach or evaluated, just sharing experiences
and to help others is a joy. I loved Deore and have the LX on my GT 1.0
Alivio should be one grade lower if I am not wrong followed by Altus
and Acera.

How some cyclists term them as "crappy component" must be through
their experiences. However you can get your own parts at

www.totalcycling.com

For durability and smoothness I'll go for Deore/LX/XT/XTR
I think Alivio is only slightly inferior to Deore and XT..
Just bear in mind that the Alivio may not hold up as well as better
components under hard riding and stressful conditions when used
on a MTB for off road.

Since the hybrid is for the street the components won't be under that
kind of hard riding condition. Find out more of the experiences from

I am interested ( downstream, not the near future ) to get a cyclocross frame and build up a ride that accommodates wider tyres for local roads / pavements .

Do you recommend MTB gears or road gears ? the earlier one more durable ?
It will be for normal Singapore road cycles rather than any remote off trail or mud tracks.

The experience and fun of building your own bike cannot be described in words.
You don't really need light weight stuff when you are not using the bike for
racing.

Serious cyclists like to experience different frame geometry and one such popular nut to crack is the cyclo-cross which has drop bar similar to a racing bike but a wider clearances to accomodate the wider tires. The manufacturers have introduce disc brake and cyclocross specific groupsets from Shimano.
They are usually the combination of light and even hydraulic hardware with road-racing styled integrated brake. Well, you have to be prepared to pay for it.

The Giant TCX Cyclo-cross bicycle outfitted for road riding could be a good starter. There are economical roadbikes using MTB gears. So likewise if you are thinking of saving some cash why not go for it. However having the ten speed 11-25 instead of the 12-27 cassette will be more appropriate. One such popular and durabie groupset is the:

Bike Vandalism

The owner must have left his bike locked for a couple of days at this venue
which is always busy both day and night because next to it is the food center.
The thief could not bring his cutter to destroy the chain as he would be easily
caught while doing the act. So he could only remove the back wheel which was
not locked. Since it is so easy to remove the seatpost and the saddle he decided
to remove these two items as well.

In this case, it is obvious the owner did not remove the wheel himself because
there are two bicycles shops nearby where he could have easily get the wheel
repaired if it was punctured. The bike shows signs of being left unattended for
many days. If the owner comes and get his bike, he could have get the wheel
replaced at the nearby bicycle shops. The owner must have left the bike there
for a quite some time before someone decided to remove the back wheel.

The Chopper bikes are gone

The chopper bike was the "must have" for many children and young adults during the 70s
and fondly remembered by those who grew up in that period. At that time it was the in thing
to ride a chopper and children were riding them around the housing estates. Today when
I saw one it was like a revelation of the past but was puzzled as to the reasons for not wanting
to continue to improve on its design along with getting a new bike design for the younger generations.

Thx forward once again on ur thoughts! The GIANT TCX series does look pretty, very much like my TCR
( I was thinking in future might get a Ti cyclocross frame and DIY slowly .. I tried alu and carbon rides, never had a chance to try Ti)

Anyhow I just got my shipment of Conti Gatorskins from Evans for my roadbike, hopefully they will help me go a little longer before the inner tubes flat!

The model that I purchased the Monotine FR 700C comes with very basic market
bike low end components. The shifters and deraileurs were very low end type
similar to those found on a $85 market bike you get from shopping centre at
Suntec City.

Gnee Hong was trying to market the bike at that time with a lower price by
using lower end components. At that time, you can even just get the frame
from them and build the bike with your own choice of components yourself.

Perhaps you can ask them to give you the specs of the bike (with details of all
the components used) and post it here for our review. As a side note, once
you have found the frame you like, it's worthwhile to acquire better components
for a smoother and more joyful ride (as in shifting gears smoothly etc etc) You
may be sitting on a better quality saddle too with better quality paddles and so on.
Remember you are going to ride on the bike for quite sometime either daily or
hourly two or three times per week. Quality components on the bike does matter.

Thanks Ryan for the info. The IF Mode is very attractive and light at around 14kg. I wonder if it can be brought into the bus or MRT after
it is folded. Do you have the max size for folding bicycle that can brought into bus and the MRT?
