[TD="class: bodytext_10pt, colspan: 3"] SINGAPORE - More than 50km of dedicated off-road cycling paths will be provided at 7 HDB towns by the year 2014, Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew said today.
Mr Lui was responding to a question posed by Sembawang GRC's Member of Parliament Ong Teng Koon on the plans Singapore has in place for the promotion of eco-friendly modes of transport.

I have been told Merida road bikes are good value for money. Any comments about Merida? Which is a good dealer for this brand?
Home - Merida Bikes International

Also what is the difference between road and cross bikes?

Is cleats a good idea? I have been told that they can break legs if not careful. I have been told to get FiveTen's Diddie Schneider instead. Anyone tried this shoe or any other recommendations.

Hup Leong (at the HDB flat across from SUbordinate Courts) carries Meridia

nice mid range bikes

I'm thinking of getting a foldable bike, MRT friendly, for leisure and commuting.
planing to go around SG shooting with my camera gear (about 5kg), so a rack is needed. (home > LRT > MRT > 3-5 km radius within destination > MRT > LRT > home)
my budget is less than $450.00.

I done some research, so Dahon is out, hear about Peerless, but can't find anyone selling this in SG, can give me some suggestions and recommendation?

Thanks. Subordinate court to home is quite far after buying. Any locations in the west?

sorry but can ask where to buy ah gong style bicycle??

Yup, buy already ride it home straight away. Supposed to be a road bike, isn't it? But I only dare to ride on some stretches of Singapore roads.

I never got the guts to ride on SG road.....

We have too many FT drivers.... from around the world.... and bus drivers... who does not care.... sadly....

Yup, quite a lot of drivers are inexperience on the road but think they have been driving for a long time. Also, it is always the other party's fault mentality. I also fear for my life. One saloon car just drove past me last weekend with the side mirror almost hitting me.

Btw, for road bikers, when turning right at the junction. Do you filter to the right lane and turn with the cars or stay to left lane and cross with pedestrians?

I do not ride on the road.... but if I were to ride... I think I rather stay left and cross with pedestrians....... lower risk.......

I think you can recover your "investment" on bike within a year from the saving of public transport expenses. you also save the membership fee of going to Gym. lol

Depends on budget.
Lots of options out there nowadays.
This guys does it part time (for a long time already) from his home.
Buys in from Taiwan.
Fusion Cycles SIngapore - Aluminum, Carbon & Titanium Bikes & Bicycles
The Giant bikes are quite cheap.

Otherwise Cervelo does go on sale here every one a year to clear for next year's model (try Bike Boutique; Bike Haus)

Shoes, imo, no big deal so long as its fits well.
Pedal system, can be argued to death on which is better, but again a matter of budget and preference.

Try
togoparts.com - Singapore's No.1 Bike Marketplace - Home
for a used one.

Folding bikes, you get what you pay for.
Cheap ones usually don't fold well; poor folding system; cannot push after its folded; hard to change parts; to list a few more common problems.
Even expensive ones, need to check for theses things properly before buying.

Dahon has a cheaper $500+ one, but I'm not interested in foldables, so never try it out.

For roadies, its just filter to right lane.
Just be careful.
If in doubt, stop on the left curb and wait/see for clear traffic.
