Countdown for the coming Nikon cam

looks like a d200 little bro, and d70/50 big bro d200>d80>d70. the feature seems so close to d200 (fps4.5, 10mp) which make it look a little too much for a d70s replacement.

Or maybe Nikon are trying to be clever. Get the d50 people upgrading and potentional d70s people to buy their new product, but d70 people may not want it, so we keep saving and end up spending mor emoney on a d200? :dunno:

I think it is a great strategic sales move by Nikon,

1. It's pointed towards D50 users to upgrade, coz it has SD card. This will keep the current users as they are not forgotten.

2. It's pointed to WHOLE RANGE OF PNS shooters wanting to upgrade to something more powerful than the D50. Correct me if I am wrong but most PNS cams are using SD cards right? So this SD slot thing will move them to Nikon's direction.

If you already have a D70/D70s, I doubt if its worth to upgrade, rather you go for D200...my 2 cents.

Thought it was supposed to replace D70... so why SD card?

Yup, fully agree with you

And yes Alex, Iam right, CF cards tend to be faster than SD cards  :)

See Point 1 and 2 in quoted text, thats why we think its SD card. I dont think its a D70 replacement at all.

Another important aspect of D80 is to counter Sony's A100. Since Sony already openly declared it's intention to replace Nikon's no 2 spot. Nikon doesn't want to be sitting duck. It's a good move by Nikon to disrupt Sony's party. I think the price of D80 will be attractive. :)

SD Cards are cheap and light. It is a great move!

Think RPP for D80 will be S$1599. So most probably will be able to get it slightly under S$1500.

At the moment, I believe its seems more like a D50 replacement rather than a D70 one.

IF that's the case.... Yay! Time to replace my D50!!! ;p

I beleive Nikon has something up its sleeve in this camera, I tend to think that this camera would sport a LBCAST sensor offering superior processing speeds hence 4.5 frames Per Second at the entry level. I do not think that this will have VR in build even though this is what I crave for.....

By the way someone else said the same thing....

Its in Thom's predictions.....

Hmmm.. we'll see :D

I read somewhere that SD card technology is catching up to CF cards.

Anyway, just bought the Sandisk Extreme III 2.0GB CF today. Wonderful 2x faster than my previous Sandisk Ultra II (which is now for backup). It even includes a Rescue/Recovery software for lost photos.

How much did you pay for it? Where did you find stock? :dunno:

I didn't know it's out of stock ... I think it's everywhere now, at least i saw it at Lord's last week.

Today, I bought it at Funan, Southeast Asia Computer, $227.62 before 5% GST (although it says $269 on the box), big shop. lots of it I believe. Also bought a Sandisk Cruzer Mini flash drive that I needed on sale (if you spend more than $200).
