if indeed it is a D70 replacement, my guess is that it will be named D90 instead of D80
so far all consumer cameras are odd numbered D50 D70 -> D90
LCD.

Smart! its D90. Heard about it a month ago that a new model D90 is coming soon, unless it was a rumour.

shhhhh! top secret! under development!!! :bsmilie:

I wish they would announce another quality pro lens too. D80 or D90, still below a D200, not very exciting (unless one doesn't have a Nikon DSLR yet). Would have been better if between D200 and D2Xs, there's a big gap there ...

?? D200 is very good for wat it's worth. D200 is superb!

y would Nikon come up with a DSLR that is 'beta' than D200 but just 'below' a D2Xs? they would kill off their own D200 market, which has jus been released, and could directly hurt their D2Xs sales.

D200 is to me, jus below D2Xs less for the Cam2000 and some other functions that i dun need in the D2Xs such as the high speed crop...etc.etc.

D24(ahem!) is a stripped down version of D200 without some of the plus points of D200. its primary consumer group will be those hungry for more MP coming from the compact cammies or those seeking to 'upgrade' from D50/D70s to higher mp count cammie.

D24 will be competitively priced but don't expect it to be like those of the A100.
A100 is good for the market and for consumers like us. price point of DSLRs will plummet soon enuff but for those professional series.

go Nikon Go!

Amidst all the anticipation and euphoria, aren't those of you who are making a beeline for the new model falling into the trap of being an early adopter? Touch wood the new camera is hopefully bug free. I remember the D70 had some issues when it first came out. As for me, I'll stay on the sidelines and wait until the bugs get ironed out...and for the price to fall...

wat issues? :bsmilie: u can wait forever or simply get a D200 now!

no issues! no banding! no green light of death! nothing!

D24 roxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!!!!

I think it makes sense for Nikon to replace the vacuum that D70 series left as they don't need to develop another sensor type since the 10Mps is doing well in D200.....so basically Nikon can reuse the same sensor but with less feature than a D200....that gives upgrader something to look forward and new DSLR buyer a no brainer choice but who refuse to spend $2k plus  My guess the price point is again something around $1.6k :D

Other than that the marketing dept can also whack the ignorant buyer who think high MP=good camera, so the entire low end market will again reshuffle and basically all segment is covered by Nikon now :D But I think the biggest winner of all will be the CF card maker :D

Why sell? keep as a backup, its still a sweet camera, plus my guess is the second hand market for this could crash, meaning you get wya less money for the decent camera, might as well just keep it.

I reckon Its what iam going to do, if the D24 or D90 or D??(??) is a big enough upgrade will go for it, otehrwise will just save a bit more and get d200, but have to get the 28-105 first, been waiting a while to get that, and also 70-200 (but no money!)

Ah well, whatever! Go Nikon! D?????!!!
