Yashica (kyocera) is closing down it's camera production. I think Contax will be affected. ....

Somebody I spoke to last week told me that they were shifting production locations.

The IRS (tax people) will love your Frankenstien "CAN TAX". :bsmilie:

That's what they do. Ouch! it's income tax returns time.

Asked Carl Zeiss regarding aperture setting at storage. Seems not critical but put here to share:

''actually it doesn't matter at which aperture setting you store your lenses.

Theoretically the lenses for the Contax system (Aria) should be stored at
smallest aperture
(16 or 22), because the iris is spring-loaded for closing. So at smallest
aperture the spring is
most relaxed. But if one looks to the actual spring force data, there is no
big difference between full open
and closed - so it doesnn't matter.

Rollei lenses are spring-loaded for opening, so the iris spring is most
relaxed, when the lens is stored
in the A-mode, regardless which aperture is selected.

The red marks at your 28-70 are a focus index for infrared photography.''

Having high fever with Contax lately, all started by an Aria. Is eyeing at the RTS III but price very high at $2000. Found some but not agreeable to the condition for the asking price.

Also got a RTS II and are actually very happy with that body. Will be ideal if 1/8000 and flash sync at 1/250. Only complaint is when in flash TTL mode no shutter speed indication for existing light. I very much like the bright red LEDs. Guess being a dinosaur in photography I still prefer red LEDs to LCDs. :)

I have also bought a used RTS3 4 years back and it was also around the region of 2k.It kinda of steep for a asking price of 2k nowadays.Other model to consider is the RX or my all time favourite AX

Hi,
Anyone giving up their Contax 645? :bsmilie:

actually the glass is the main draw for the Contax system. You could pick up a Yashica body and then go lens shopping. There is (to me ) no need to spend that kinda of money on the body, better to spend it on glass.

Can I join to the family ?

1. 60th anniversary edition - CONTAX S2 with Planer T* 50mm F1.4

2. Yashica T5 compact camera - T* 35mm F3.8

Exactly. Can go for a basic 167mt or a 139 , RX ,Aria etc and get yourself some zeiss lenses.

Fyi , zeiss never manunfacture any consumer rated lenses. All zeiss lens are pro quality.

Honestly, I think that a Contax section is a waste of time. It should be expanded to a Zeiss section, after all, the zeiss glass is the reason why we buy into Contax right?

So many offerings now, Canon's 350D has tempted me a lot, maybe should get this body plus an adpater to use my contax glass?

An another offering, the Zeiss Ikon glass samples.

Time to resurrect this 1 year old thread...;)
Yeah we should have a Contax or Zeiss section in Equipment Discussions
it would be nice to gather people who share and use the same equipment !

Hey Parchiao, were you selling your cz lenses on FM?
thought i might have saw a similar photo of the baby girl somewhere;)

No lah, not me selling, abandoned Contax SLRs when the price spiked up. Now using Pentax and the (un)limited glass. :bsmilie: However, I am still holding onto the T3, can't bear not having one. Must be referring to kheng hor aka weekh, he does posts his killer photos there sometimes. I am still very impressed with him, can even make the LX1 work so well.

Wonder if anyone here has tried the new Zeiss glass on Nikon, read that the new glass is better than the film predecessors.

Can get the 50/1.4 ZF from HK already. Check ebay.

Guys, quick check..

How do we differentiate the Zeiss C/Y mount with the Zeiss Nikon mount? Is the ZF a clear indication that it is a Nikon mount? Can the Zeiss Nikon mount be used with a Canon mount (thru some adapter)?? Thanks.

Regards, Meg
