For me I won't be withdrawing my monthly donation because I still want to help those who are benefitting from NKF.

if i were you, i will donate to another organisation instead.

look at it this way, NKF have enough money in the bank, why still need to put in more money?

Another organisation may be able to make the most out of each dollar you give, and use the money wisely & immediately, instead of accumulate inside the bank (or someone else pocket).

looking at the reserve, NKF is rich enough at the moment, so why help the rich and make them richer, while the poor become poorer? shouldn't you help the poorer organisation first when the richer one can take care of themselves already?

since we have limited freedom of speech here, instead of ranting in the forum, we should all take action and divert the donation elsewhere to show our disapproval. hopefully they will wake up their ideas and do something about the way they are spending $$

I am with Wai on this matter

They really have a lot of reserves - that is enough to last them well over a decade even if they had fully subsidised every patient. Do not worry - the patients will not suffer - for the next 10 years at least.

Donation dollars are finite. For each dollar that goes to NKF, there will be less for other charities. There are many, many other deserving charities that need our help. Take the ST School Children Pocket Fund for example - it's always short of donations, and I dare say almsot 100% of the funds collected goes to the needy. Or the Old Folks Home, and so on

Why should one single charity hog all the limelight and marginalise so many other charities? Moreover they have even moved into cancer lately. Their entry into cancer had caused a lot of consternation with the Singapore Cancer Society - so much so that the SCS had to publicly clarify that all funds collected goes to NKF and not SCS

As revealed in court, all they needed was just 7+ million a year. The patients forked out 24+ million themselves. The percentage of your donations actually going to the patients is very very low in view of their extravagance (all the details in court) and the low subsidy. I'll say let another charity like the KDF handle it

But what is worse and extremely shocking is that they have deliberately deceived the public into thinking that the reserves are able to last only for 3 years when it's more like 30-40 years. Ditto for the patient numbers - and when questioned, the CEO gave unsatisfcatory, evasive replies like "it was immaterial", "my entitlement", "the board decides", etc

I urge you to reconsider - supporting such an organisation is sending the wrong message

Ahem!

Call me dumb! Call me ANYTHING!

But I just do not understand the stand by people like Adam Goi and Nisa. Somepeole have money to throw. Others want theirs to be used well.

I am not questioning their motives, which are highly commendable.

I just do not understand how their logic work. Or maybe I do.

NKF does have its supporters too you know.....just look at the standing ovation given to tt durai at nkf after his legal actions dragged nkf's name through the mud. :o

SORRY Mr NKF

BY CAROL LEONG
Apr 14, 1998

SO sorry, what I said is totally untrue.

And so, a former volunteer of the National Kidney Foundation has publicly apologised for slandering the kidney dialysis group and its chief, Mr T T Durai.

Mr Archie Ong Liang Gay's apology is published in The Straits Times today. (see below)

He apologised unreservedly for making untrue remarks about Mr Durai and five members of the NKF.

On April 11 last year, in a casual conversation with Mr Alwyn Lim at the Marco Polo Hotel, Mr Ong had claimed that NKF "squandered monies" and that Mr Durai, its Chief Executive Officer, "jets here and there in first class".

Mr Durai and the five members sued Mr Ong for slander in July last year.

Legal action was taken because his remarks could damage the credibility of NKF and Mr Durai, its CEO since 1992.

Mr Ong said that his remarks were "totally baseless and untrue".

In his apology, he said he was sorry he had implied that:

# The NKF, which is a charitable organisation supported by the public, has squandered monies received from members of the public intended for the purpose of the NKF; and

# Mr Durai as CEO of the NKF, travels on NKF business in first class and thus squanders NKF monies.

Mr Ong said: "I apologise and regret that the above statement was ever made and withdraw it unreservedly.

"I am aware that these remarks, which are totally untrue, are also injurious to the reputation of the NKF in the eyes of its donors and the Singapore public".

He also apologised for "any distress and embarrassment caused to Mr Durai and members of the Executive Committee".

As compensation, Mr Ong will pay the legal costs of the two suits against him.

Also, as a "gesture of my remorse and goodwill", Mr Ong will pay the damages agreed upon.

When contacted this morning, Mr Ong was terse. "I am not allowed to reveal the damages," he said. "I have no further comment".

Mr Durai could not be contacted this morning.

Anyone else think the standing ovation is fishy? Possibility of it being a staged event?

If I was NKF and the public knew I had a huge reserve. How do I collect more money without making the reserve look more inflated. Well I'd start a Cancer fund hehehe......yes brilliant .........
I think I can take over the Durian man. I don't mind getting paid peanuts. :bsmilie:

All should donate money to more efficient organization to make the dollar go further and make sure more reaches the needed. Resources are wasted when issues like mismanagement halved the needy's help.

If NKF can rise a cool $5 million a year using TV Lucky draw shows, but only less than $2.5 million(half) reaches the kidney patients. If KDF draws $3 million without TV shows but able to contribute more than $2.5 million(80% to 90%) to the kidney patients, isn't it better?

it's actually the result of "closing ranks", "denial", and "the fear of losing their big fat bonuses".

not forgetting the golden tap, 8 cars and chauffers, road tax, car maintenance and tons of peanuts.

ADD: forgot to add the German toilet bowl :p

charity organisations should be judged on their ROD - Return on Donation (i.e. percentage of donations actually going to the needy).

any charitable organisation with an ROD of less than 70% should be closed down immediately.
