On a side note...
Charity events these days are marketed like lucky draw or lottery. Just look at all the advertisements for the events that tell you to call up and win prizes... really appalled that they only mention the cost of the call in small prints, and it's also very hard to know which org u're calling up or donating to just looking at the ads... their emphasis is always on prizes like condos, cars, laptops...
maybe all these charity org should be regulated and put under singapore pools, who can make themselves transparent by announcing how much of earnings from bets goes into charities, prizes, overheads... adds a morally right side to gambling though... haha
however right now if we pull out our donations, ultimately the beneficiaries suffer, although by how much will depend on the proportion of overheads... then maybe they start thinking up more lottery-like events to get more funds bcos it's dropping, and we feel they abusing their funds more... do i sense a vicious circle here?
so point here is... profit seeking model is not suitable for charity orgs. the ethic and moral standpoint is just too controversial, cos all donors are the stakeholders
