[ Coming Product ] : Panasonic GH2

If you don't mind the 14-45mm kit, Parisilk do have stock. I saw at least 1 set on the shelf there this afternoon.

hi all,

Just wanna share with everyone and for those who do not know... Panasonic is having promotion for GH2, if you bought a GH2 from launch (10 Dec) till 31 Dec, you can go down to panasonic service center at bukit merah to collect additional free gifts, including 16g class 4 Kingston SDHC card, travel kit and a 3rd party tripod. I just collected mine, so hope to share with you guys the deal, i wasn't told by the retailer that there is such promo. well cannot blame them i got it on 10 Dec.

Cheers

anyone tried the extra tele converter feature of the gh2? read somewhere it can add 2.6x, how will affect the picture quality? still can't decide if i buy the 14-42 kit with 100-300 or just buy the 14-140 kit and use this ETC feature.

i am used to shoot at 432mm equiv. mostly stage shots - that's why i need telephoto.

any info will be great.

hi there,

I had tried the tele converter feature, it is quite awesome. the quality for video is awesome, but if you want to try take photo with it (ie. take photo while using the tele converter), the quality isn't that good.. i guess that is because i did it without a tripod, maybe someone wanna try it but from what i see cos the setting from video is slightly different from taking still picture, it seems that photo taken while doing video isn't that good.

hope this help

Cheers

This ETC function on the GH2 is also available on G2.. in G2, its called Extended Optical Zoom.. (pg 56 of manual)

For video.. supposedly no degradation.. I've tested some sample shots.. looks ok..

For stills, you will need to switch to M sized Jpegs from L size. On the G2 the M size is 6mp at 4:3.. still ok for me lah.. when you really need the reach.. I dont pixel peep too much.. ;)
but can see slight difference..

With HD video card 20mb/s and the extended function shooting at buidings from a high-rise
flat, the edges of the buildings suffered from pixelation. So, I checked the specs of camera and there is no mention of anti-aliasing or low-pass filter in the sensor.
I think the culprit is the video card or the use of function extension.

Thanks for sharing. What brand is the tripod? :)

After reading the web article, I would engage the extra tele con. only shooting video. For still image, i would off it because the sensor would then record the still image in 16MP rather than 2MP for video resolution. Is this preferably.

I am wondering if anyone has read comparison of still image quality between G2 and GH2. The body price diff is about $480. Reason I am asking is that I am not into video at all, GH2 excel in video and it would be a feature that I won't use. Having said that, I wanted a m43 body with the best possible IQ especially in low light high ISO situation.

Hi KTi

I dont own a GH2 (yet !... ;) ) .. hopefully will when i get more $$. But from looking at the GH2 samples and reviews.. you can see that for stills (esp at High ISO/low light) there is a great difference.

If you shoot outdoors and dont do sports photography etc.. then G2 is ok. i.e. landscapes, wildlife, scenics etc..

If you shoot indoors / low light the sensor in the GH2 is more sensitive. I've seen reviews saying easily 1-2 stops better

For Sports.. GH2 is so much better.. burst rate at 5fps (equal to low/med DSLR). G2 is only 3.2 fps. That together with better/faster sensor and faster AF makes GH2 better suited for sports. Gosh.. you can even shoot 40fps using the electronic shutter for 1 sec giving 4mp images... great when you really need to catch some action..

Agrivar, thanks for sharing.

Are you looking to sell your G2? ;) Let me know before 2 pm today. Haha.

What you have commented is very valid, at this point, GH2 is probably the best m43 body there is and will not go too far wrong with the purchase. Decisions, decisions ...

Hi Jemhadar

I'm sold !! The video quality is amazing.. I shoot lots of video with my G2, but this convinces me.. if I can save some $$.. or if Panasonic releases body only upgrades here.. I'll switch..My G2 is adequate, but i really do lots of video..

unfortunately i need my camera until i can save $$ for a GH2.. so I have to hold on to the G2until then.. which is not by 2pm today :D

G2 is a good camera and I loved it so much when i first got it.. shot over 700 stills and a mix of AVCHD and Mjpeg video during my first "event" that I used it at.. loved it... still do.. so will love the GH2 when i can get it.. :bsmilie:

On video mode I noticed that when the ETC is on, the image looks a little grainy thru the EVF.
But once you press Rec, it clears up.

No issues there.. i only use the LCD for video work.. LCD/EVF for stills ..
Probably something to do with the processing for the EVF on ETC..

Anyone manage to purchase a spare battery from any shop yet?

Bought mine from TK Foto this afternoon as a X'mas gift for myself. Now learning how to use the camera. Will be selling off the 14-42 kit lens, if anyone is keen to buy. Ask the guy there, no 3rd party spare battery for the camera yet, original spare battery also no stock. Looks like got to wait.
