[ Coming Product ] : Panasonic GH2

Dear KTi,
Its limited worldwide warrenty so that probably means yes.
The repair centre is near Queenstown as my GH1's strap stubs broke off almost sending it falling 5 stories down.

I agree Oly 9-18 is much lighter, but smaller is due to the collapsible nature.
It is this nature coupled with the plastic mount that prevents me from making the buy.

1) Collapsible lens means more parts to get jam due to dirt or the spring being stuck. I go to the seaside and waterlog places quite often.
2) I change lens more often than I have lunch. So numerous changing of lens will result in extra plastic coming out of the mount. I would like to call those bonus item but its not.

I will probably rent the two lens for my next trip to see the performance.
Or maybe ask B00n12's friend to bring back a new 7-14mm from USA since the price is so cheap over there. My 45mm macro is dirt cheap over now.

I thought it'd be closer to Redhill? Anyway, its along Bukit Mearah near Queensway Shopping center, lucky your GH1 didn't drop other super heart pain

Yes, you are also right. I always approach from the Queenstown side and walk over there while eating Swedish meatball at Ikea.

Yes, it was a terrifying moment as the GH-1's strap slam onto the side of the railing at the Forest Walk after Alexandra Arch. Only thing saving it from plumenting five storeys down is the other side of the strap wound around my hand.
Of course for the rest of the night shoot I was in no mood to do anything. So my buddy took over my guiding role.

When I took it for repair, the tech admitted its a common issue with the first generation of China made GH1. So they change the stubs to permanent stubs without even checking my warrenty. A bit upset with Panny as they didn't conduct a recall for this, users might not know that and risk having their GH-1 falling in grace.

Ah... When I go to Panasonic (twice) I walked from Redhill since I live there, hahahah, that is quite ermmm... not sure what word to use, but yea, it is quite a sad case since they know its a problem yet do not call for recall

Wah, spidey89 we are quite close by leh. I live in Commonwealth Tanglin Halt.

While I was doing my NY Marathon yest, wife made a trip down BH to buy the 9 -18mm for me.. US$ 648 with taxes.

Did some trial shoot at Nicara falls just now..so far quite like it...makes me wonder how much better 7-14mm would be..at close to double the price..

Dear sci70716,
The 7-14mm cost USD $980 in Amazon not double and the cost is due to the extra glass inside.
The constant F4 does make a difference when you don't have IBIS unless I shoot with tripod.
Yes, I use a Panny instead of Oly so it suck in the stabliser vs cost department.
I like using filters instead of Photoshop so its a bit of a headache there.

Dear spidey89,
You got to be sleeping at regular hours instead of staying up too late.
Photographers need their eyes to frame shots so try not to strain them too much.

Dear NazgulKing,
7-14mm is really wide with the usual distortion.
Too bad nobody does a one-to-one comparsion of the two lens instead just using tech specs.
They would have to use a EP1/2 or EPL1 vs GF1 as GH1 has a bigger resolution.

Man.. All wide angles have flaws one way or another. It's up to the user to decide whether he wants to afford the constant f-stop and the wide field of view really. Getting too hung up on this and that makes photography a chore really. ;p

One thing I was glad for was the field of view. Managed to take a photo of the USS Intrepid in New York in her entirety from bow to stern. :bsmilie: DOn't have a picture with me now, but I could upload it later.

Agreed, using my ZD 7-14, never regretted, except paying for it :bsmilie:

Dear jungle_sg,
Last seen on Amazon US is USD 980.
In Amazon Japan, it cost about 73,211 yen.
Anyone going to Japan or US and has friends there to help buy online?
They deliver overnight right up to your doorstep.

Dear NazgulKing,
I agree with you about thinking too much.
Its a side effect of having too much time and too little money.
Just that having the most suited lens for my camera makes up for my inexperience until I grow better.

Dear sci70716,
You are not helping by showing me these nice pictures. Now I'm even more torn in-between in choosing my UWA lens. Maybe I should get a Nikkor 13mm UWA with a mount instead. ;)

I know your joking but the Nik 13mm on the Oly will not be very wide (about equal to 26mm field of view) and the Nikon 13mm is sooooo expensive...(but I want one!)...all joking aside, I love my Oly 9-18 on my EP1 and E PL1 bodies... Very sharp and a pleasure to use...If I need wider I just use my Samyang 8 FE, and compose so that I don't get too much distortion...

Cheers

Some more pictures with the 7-14.

For sure the lens has a fair bit of software correction (hey, even the Leica M9 has them) but if one is willing to get past that, the lens does its job. :)

haha this thread is about gh2 :P many OOT to the UWA... haha

Anyway anyone else other than me getting GH2?

Dear B00n12,
Sorry, my fault for hijacking the thread.
Of course you can count me in for the GH-2.
Too bad I can't get it in time for the AFA-X as Cosplay act on the stage is always a problem for the GH-1.
It can't capture the movements fast enough and ISO higher than 800 can be thrown out the window.
We don't want the cosplayers to be blinded and injury themselves due to our non-stop combustible flash.
Or the worse case scenario is I will wait for Oly n Kodak's development of that 16Mp PEN, since their co-op will result in a slower AF (nothing unusal) but much richer color picture.
And Oly does make cheap n decent UW housing that I wanted to venture to once my health recovers.

haha no worries, just that my concern now is whether to get GH2 or not, was a GF1 user, previously was from Nikon but want something smaller, hence the GF1 choices. If now move to GH2 then seem the same, however currently have a few pieces of glass from pana, was thinking to carry on with this line but seem the future of G series might not be so bright afterall..

GH2 = more video for my daughter, which is my primary subject haha.

and really hope that GH2 fix GF1 noise issue... ISO800 on GF1 is too noisy to my liking...
