[ Coming Product ] : Panasonic GH2

What i got for Xmas promo was 2 x 8GB card from Harvey Norman, 1 x 16GB from Panasonic. So i'm assuming the CNY one is 8GB from Panasonic on top of whatever the retail shop is offering..

Dun think the prices will drop so fast wor.

BTW, got a product brochure of GF-2. How come GH-2 doesn't have such publicity medium.. Honestly speaking, GH 2 has soooo many features and the manual kinda suck, its only until i read about them on the GF-2 brochure that i understood wat they are.. seems to me Panasonic isn't marketing GH-2 much huh?

I guess its because the GF2 is targetted more at the mass market, i.e. from consumer or prosumer owners looking to upgrade. THe GH2 is more for pros and enthusiasts looking for
2nd Camera or for folks wanting to shoot video etc.. more "niche".

Hence more marketing efforts to push GF2. If you look at the latest Japan BCN rankings for cameras for Japan domestic market, the GF2 is #7. No sight of GH2 at all in top 20.

the ranking is likely by popularity which translate to number of sales

And it seems dpreview isn't doing any full reviews on Gh2

Actually DPReview might be doing a series again, eg comparision of video capable interchangeable cameras. They took a long while to come out with S95/LX5/P7000 too.

While they may be taking their time, when I was reading the Fuji x100 preview, I was surprised with the repeated nastiness about smaller than APS-C sized sensors. I got the feeling that the writer was a fanatic for APS-C and 135 format sized sensors, but had probably never touched medium format.

It just seemed as though shots were being fired at the Sigma DP-series cameras and any Four-Thirds models to come.

I see a lot of good press about the GH2, but the Canon fanatics continue to claim it's a toy and can't match their beloved Canon bodies. Still, most of what I see is that Panasonic has exceeded what Canon has done except for the highest quality still photos.

Word.

Although cameras like GH2 and E5 keep on getting rave reviews, it is still lacking behind in terms of branding and uptake rate, which is partly due to the stigma of consumers going for the big brands.

It's like how the M8 has serious issues but people buy it because they can flaunt that they have it.

Oh well.

saw the first third party battery available at eBay...

Some people are conscious about what they are seen carrying, for me, don't give a hoot. I love all of my lumix, pen or pentax cameras. They are mine and I use them to create the images I love.

Obviously, they couldn't say "Panasonic" simply because it's an inexpensive consumer brand, though I'm not sure Lumix is better, but it's certainly easier to fit. I'd think they'd write "with Panavision" on it or something like that to accentuate the movie potential.

Anyone have an update on GH2 with 14-42 availability and pricing? A few weeks back MSC quoted me $1380. Has this changed? Anywhere cheaper?

Bought a week ago at Cathay. Price $1400.

I was at Parisilk Katong an hour ago, the GH2 14-42mm kit selling at S$1370 cash but no stocks:(

just one 8 gig sdhc card and one lumix camera bag.

ISO 1600 is reserved for emergency on my Canon 7D.
On the GH2, i've no reservation to use ISO 1600.

But at base ISO, the GH2 can be noisy.

Any idea how much is the original battery?
I shot about 400 frames during the Chingay and it uses up only 1 bar of battery. Nevertheless I would like to have a standby battery.

Is the 3rd party battery available?
