Comex Olympus deals 28-31 aug

I bought at Funan paid $70 for an extra original battery, total cost still more than $30 cheaper than buying at Comex. Need to claim the 45mm lens from Olympus.

Hijacking this response just to express my 2c thoughts for buying from Comex vs Retail Stores.
- flexibility to pay via installments if payment made via credit card (no additional 3%)
- you get the 45/1.8 lens on the spot (no hassle to go OSC to collect)
- you get original Olympus battery for the extra bundled freebie (confirmed with the present owners, yes original)
- you get an additional 16GB Sandisk (low speed) card on top of what came with the camera (a Sandisk 8GB low speed SD card) - not sure if the retail shop gives this though.
- the bank in which you made the purchase with using credit card payment will likely entitle you to some form of free gift/voucher for redemption at the Comex show (I made mine with Std Charted, for every 500-1999 spent, can redeem $20 courts voucher - you can use this to offset a part of the other stuff like; lcd screen protector/blower/lenspen/etc if you so desire)
- I got 2 other relatively affordable/cheap freebies (not difficult to guess if you put some thoughts into it) per unit from the show (not very useful in my context but still will come in handy when the need arise or for total beginners in this hobby)

To summarise, you save <$30 (70ish goes to the original battery) if you match apple to apple on all the confirmed freebies getting from a retail store.
The amount of time you save may not be well worth it especially having to make a trip down to OSC to collect the lens.

I shoot mostly street and portrait...do you think Oly is a good complement to my Nikon FF?

Really I should buy ar? haha..

Not sure why...now suddenly I am not quite confident in getting it..despite the price is so attractive...

It depends on whether you always shoot wide open or in the dark on your Nikon FF. :bsmilie:

Depends really, I find that the news cameras all can compare to my Nikon D3, and it was king of low light, if any smaller sensor cameras can compare or exceed that, it's good to me, even today, using FF digital for like 4 years? And FF for many years (film) before the switch to digital, I've always liked the light weight and the dof at the same aperture opening on the m43 system, true that bokeh is good, but it is also over rated.

The other day someone asked me, if I had a chance to use m43 now, would I choose m43 or Nikon, I told her I'll go for m43, but only the E-M1 cause it's the only camera with a suitable grip for my hand, but of course, that's my personal preference. It's arguable, street and portrait, the small m43 factor will be less intimidating than taking a FF camera out to shoot, plus you get wireless control from your phone, can snap when pretending to check your phone for something ;)

I shoot wide open most of the time...

Then better not, M4/3 DOF will not match FF DOF.. That's just how it is.

But that said, if you are intending for it to be a lightweight carry-out solution, it is very able.

Many Thanks for the comments.

I think I might give it a miss... Given that I've to think so hard to justify the purchase.

Moreover, my D800 + prime lenses, isn't that heavy anyway.

For me, not so much the savings. I wanted to get filters and ECG-1 grip ( I'm not sure Courts will have those items at Comex booth) that's why I chose to buy from shop, from Funan to Olympus Service Center (River Valley) isn't that far. Moreover buying from retail shop I get to test the camera vs made payment and collect from another counter, take and go when purchased at Comex).

One more important thing to me is not having to fight with crowd visiting Comex. At the end its just personal preference.

Hi everyone ,

Just wana give a small reminder as I'm sure there will be 14-42EZ and 45/1.8 lenses unbundled from the Comex sales on BnS soon ;)

The 12+3 months for lenses applies only for kit lenses ; in this case the 14-42EZ definitely but I don't think this will apply for the 45/1.8 as it's given as a stand-alone free gift - aka standalone warranty card.

Just wana clarify before seller or buyer gets the wrong expectations.

Hi Keith. Does that means for the EM10 + 14-42 EZ kit purchased in Feb14 during the 1+2years warranty promo will apply to both body and lens?

The above reason alone is enough for me to buy from retail.... can take own sweet time to feel the camera at shop.... very important.... once the camera say take me home.... thats it...

For that specific case (EM10 launch) , the +2 years applies to the body and kit lens , but note that it's local and not international while the first year is international warranty.

I was there on Fri, not much crowd to fight with. was at the Fuji booth, took my own sweet time and tried so many lenses and body.

Can't say the same for olympus, they only have kit. no additional lenses to try.

1st time into 4/3 camera since last time with om-1n, 2sp & om-4.
Bought from courts @1198 n choose blackbody for E-M10 but was come with all black lens.
No more free camera battery but substitute with 32G sd card, lowepro bag, 3 section zipshot tripod n ( $20 voucher to me for DBS shopper apps crashed in Google).
Will ask more in equipment section.

I found the crowd during Thurs and Friday very manageable - it wasn't the case if it were the previous shows where the Telcos were there.
Anyway, Comex is over and what is more important is, enjoy the purchase, bring the gear out to get it's well deserved exposure.

Lastly, come to the TCSS kopi session which is happening on 3rd Sept (TCC@Funan, 7pm) if you are available! :)

Wow tempted to get the em10 to try but currently too invested into Fuji lol

Yes....previously the crowd really cannot make it...too pack until don't feel like buying anything....in fact, everytime i go PC show is just look see....this time I actually have the mood to buy something because it's not that crowded and most importantly, the price is very competitive. Went to try out the camera i want on Fri, check out the prices...and then get them to match. outside cash only but there, i paid by credit card and instalment . Initially say no instament, but at the cashier, asked me if i want 12, 24 or 36 months instalment. Didn't know can choose somemore.

i still newbie in the DSLR didgital, need to learn alot, gone the day of heavyweight body and bazooka tele-len
