Timber Wolf, was your pic shot using a D7D? Image looks very clean (noise free) at ISO 1600.

Yeppz. The two shots were shot using 7D at ISO 1600. Can't have been any other DSLR cos deslim banned "non-KM" products :nono:

Got a few more shots, will post later.

More more point teach. Need to learn from u pple!

U converted the shots to B&W? Or were they shot straight as B&W from the camera?
Think the first shot having a smaller subject and more background would be nicer. Second one is good!

Both were shot in colour and converted to black/white. I thought that leaving too much space would have lessened the emphasis on the first shot. Thx for the advice though! =) I'll try to do that next time.

These were taken during the 1st few hours of Lunar New Year.

Yah, I went ard 1am after the midnight fireworks. Some streets were so crowded that I was stucked for at least 30mins and 10-15mins not advancing a step. :( When I came out, saw the stage and there were crowds dancing away to the music.

I wanted to blur the people in the background with a slow shutter speed, but I guess with wide angle, the shutter speed I used wasnt slow enough

am wondering technically why would a wide angle lens give a different (slower/faster) shutter speed from a lens of other focal range?

it all boils down to the metering, wide angles (except for using as fisheye, placing the lens close to subject for portraits) will most likely even at f2.8 or wider gives you a full depth of view, due to the focusing distance. notice that wide angles tends to focus to infinity, & it can't focus on objects if the object even if the object is 1/2 way from the background and you... (depends on situation) so to have blur background with a wide angle, most likely the person/object you wanna sharpen must stand relatively close to the lens & the background much further away.

I am thinking maybe like the inverse focal length=shuttle speed rule, wide angle can take slower shuttle speed due to the apparent distance of my subject compared to a telephoto... Since my subject appears further and smaller, any motion blur with be less apparent, but I may be wrong... Because for that wide angle shot I used shuttle speeds of around 1/15 second and I got minimum motion blur... I am still new to wide angles...

He is refering to this picture. Slight movement of the people below (say 10-20cm) during the exposure isn't significant enough to appear in the picture.

for such picture... since i still newbie, i give my newbie 2 cents...

if wanna take shots of ppl's movement blurred, just think about how much time is taken for a individual to move & how much trails u wanna leave den set it to the shutter speed, and then to darken / sharpen the surroundings, just close down the aperture, for this pic, most likely would use f8-f13, shutter speed 3" (i do not know the exif and the time of the shoot, so just giving a 2 cents advice)
