 Thanks for letting us know. Since you have 2 XEON Servers, maybe you consider swapping them as the load mainly fall on your database server. just my IMHO.

Nonac22: apologies... misunderstood myself... :embrass:

Indeed they already have 2 Dual XEON Servers... you have a point, although it is only a temporary solution....

I am suggesting that we offer interest-free loans to Clubsnap to get the new server up ASAP whilst we wait for the funds to come in. I don't think with the no. of members we have, there should be any problem.
Do not be caught in doing this business, you are not suppose to do so without a valid banking license or other equivalent licenses.

isnt eng_keow's suggestion similar to lending money to a friend??

don't get too carried away here.
note 'interest-free'.
note personal offer without prospective gains.
note several '000 is not yet significant sum.
note this is one-off.

It is a kind, albeit very awkward suggestion. heheheeee..

Personally i think clubsnap can canvass for more ads
from the equipment sellers / retailers.
Organize a fund raising drives regularly.
eg.. Selling Clubsnap mugs, Clubsnap neckstraps, Clubsnap shirts,
Clubsnap membership cards - linked with offers at cafes etc.
Members' preview of equipment launches tie in with the major brands(sponsors).
(not on a big scale of course, else operating costs and time would outweigh the funds raised)

Perhaps have more volunteers on board the team to do the above.

That's a great idea  , assuming the load of the Web Servers are low and will not suffer performance drop when swapped to the slower server, else we'll still have performance problems after the swap.

wat if the user don't require the gallery? i.e. juz soley using the forum dat's all..
does it mean the user also has to subscribe?

i subscribe to the clubsnap webspace plan and i find the service top notch

Darren, as a way of easing the server load, maybe you can change the default search options. For example, the default search option searches all posts no matter how old. Eg: you can set the default for 'previous 6 months', and if the user wants to search 1 year back, he can change the default. Similarly, the search goes through all sub-forums. Perhaps you can make the default to search through one forum only with an option to search all.

alternatively, as an experiment, disable all search functions during peak periods  I think HWZ did this once to ease server loads.

I subscribe to clubsnap webspace plan too. The support by Darren and his team are responsvie and 1st Class!

Highly recommended to anyone looking for webspace.:)

darrenis it possible to do full hosting ie I get a xxxx.com and the server or gallery holds the html and files ?

One suggestion:

The "Front page news" is not patronised by many people - the number of people visiting that forum is very low

To broaden the reach, place the sticky for appeal of funds at Buy/Sell and Consumers Corner - where a large proportion of CS members hang out. These two areas are also where CS members have benefited greatly from CS

does that mean for those who were paying 100 dollars for FY2005, will get a free upgrade to 300 MB storage? hmm...

generate fund via another CS polo shirt run

I suppose that there are many new members who want a polo shirt
I'll think of more ideas

Hi,
I think that is a great idea. I was hoping to get the Clubsnap Polo-Shirt. I believe other new members also wanted a MO for the Polo-Shirt.

yeah i think optimising the search menu is great idea
truth be told i always do a quick check of 2nd hand items i am interested in using the quick search even tho i know it will be slower becos its too much trouble to do the advanced search on the buy sell forum..
i suspect many are doing that as well..
another way to lessen the load is to allow saved searches?
this way the searches can be cached in the member's inbox...
this might lessen the load on the machines as well..

Hi everybody,

I just signed up for the Gallery subscription and I hope this will help clubsnap in a small way.

I think like myself, many of us have been logging on every evening for a long long time. For me, since 2003. This is one of the best local photography site ever for exchanging ideas and trading equipment. Infact, I think it's the best regionally.

Please do help keep this site going strong! I sincerely urge all members to contribute what you can in any small way... perhaps a $10 donation?

And to all the admin and mods of clubsnap, you have all done a great job! Thank you for all the years of helping me keep myself busy with information regarding photography.. May clubsnap go international and have many more years to come.

Best regards,

Michael
