WHITE BALANCE Question.
For Sunrise/Sunset and Night shots, I leave it at AWB. Any other settings 1000Ders tried?

I usually leave white balance to the default AWB mode. But this is what i understand from my experimentations and it may be wrong. But here it goes.
White balance is measured in K units. The bigger the K value, example 5000K-7000K, the white parts will appear reddish or WARM. The lower K value, example, 1000K or 2000K, the white parts will appear bluish or COOL. The main idea behind adjusting the WB is to make the white appear as white as possible.
Depending on your needs you can set it using the WB button in the 1000D. The 1000D categorizes white balance into Daylight (5200K), Shade (7000K), Cloudy(6000K), Tungsten Bulb(3200K), Fluorescent bulb(4000K), Flash and Custom modes.
If you still not happy, you can set your own WB Shift. To do this...
1. Press "Menu"
2. Goto to the 2nd tab (from left, the second camera icon)
3. Goto WB Shift/Bkt and adjust accordingly.
Go up the white becomes more greenish
Go down it goes magentaish
Go left it becomes more blue
Go right it becomes more red.
Dont forget to save... Enjoy adjusting until you get tired;p.
Remember, the main idea is to make white appears white. But of course you can also have your own creative adjustments.

For sunrise/sunset, I would rather make the WB warmer... Hopefully it'll make the glow more yellowish and reddish...

For Night shots I just leave it to AWB. At night its suppose to be dark anyway. An usually the AWB is sufficient enough to get the image WB appears natural.
