Hey guys,

I was just thinking for our coming third outing, wanna share money and rent out a 50D? ;p We can then take turns feeling and shooting using the 50D. Why 50D and not 5D Mk II? Well most of us have EF-S lenses and 5D Mk II accepts no EF-S lenses.

Mahathir

I go along with majority.

I'm saving up for the Tammy 17-50mm.. Its half the price of the canon ef-s 17-55mm, and IQ comparable if you get a gd, sharp set.. Till i can afford the original canon lens that is as the 17-55 IQ is comparable to an 'L' lens.. Other than that, the 70-200 IS is another on my wishlist..

I believe the EF-S 17-55 hold its value better than the Tamron 17-50. The Tamron ain't that bad but f2.8 is not enough for me :bsmilie:

Just putting my 2 cents in. I am getting my 1000D soon (sometime next week). So I am thinking about this outing.
Might I suggest that instead of renting a 50D body we put the money into renting really nice lenses for all to try instead. Surely there are lenses that can be rented that none of the people attending the gathering have (or willing to share :D).
It seems like this gathering is going to be very useful for people starting out (like me) and a lot of beginners have chosen the 1000D for its attractive price and feature set .. so it seems like having the 50D there would be of limited usefulness.
Just my 2 cents.

Agreed on the value of the canon.. But budget-wise..

do you have the 18-55? or is this going to be your first lens?

if you are a newbie, and have been playing along with your kit lenses together with the EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6III USM for the past 3weeks, what lens will you be looking at for your next purchase:

Any suggestion? I have seen lenses here are very expensive, pls suggest a reasonable range:

1) Macro lens
2) Telephoto lens

I am sure after this, you guys will stop me from having late night sleeps... browsing the forum without narrowing down what lenses / range will be suitable for 1mth DSLR user like me.

thanks in advance

100mm f/2.8 macro (if i strike 4D and money is no object)
tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro (more likely to be the case)

Photography is not a cheap hobby to begin with. If you think it's too expensive, I suggest you stick with what you have. It's good enough for normal shoots.

1) I don't have experience with macro. A few lenses I can think of: Tamron 90 f2.8 / EF 100 f2.8
2) 55-250 is better than the 75-300 that you have currently. I used to own the 75-300 as well but just too many lousy shots with that lens.

If you looking for new lens to play with but on a budget, you can try the 50 f1.8

we suggested the same lenses :bsmilie:

but i guess those more into macro would get a lens in the 180mm range

I think almost everyone would recommend the same thing:
1) Macro lens: EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM or EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM or Tammy AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro
2) Telephoto lens: EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS (affordable and good to start off with)

Other than that, as mentioned earlier by bro fleaz, you might want to get the ultra-affordable prime lens, EF 50mm f/1.8.

Hi guys,
15-feb 09 is just around the corner. Total participants will be ard 6 pax.
BY the way.. the more the merrier, still hoping more of 1000D users could turn up

Anyway.. Mr M or anyone of us here. Havent yet set the
meeting point. Venue of shooting will be Fort Canning Park.
So i suggest we meet at the nearest MRT then all of us will walk there (those with own vehicle, i suggest u park at fort canning n we'll meet there.). I guess Dhoby Ghaut Should be the nearest mrt.IF i'm not mistaken..there's a staircase that will lead us up to fort canning, and the staircase is beside parkmall(near Dhoby Ghaut MRT).

So any better suggestion ..please suggest.
So see u guys on the 15th aite. thanks

im ok with Dhoby Ghaut, intially thought it would be City Hall nearest.

Fatah : Buzz me if you want to have the Sigma (18-200mm) earlier. I'll be shooting with kit lens and my brand new 50mm f1.8.

For info, MS selling the Lowepro FastPack 250 for $89. Seems like a good travelling bag with Notebook compartment.
