Club $1 - on Canon Equipment.

Just a side remark:
Even without having the 5K club or 10K club, just by putting your entire equipment inventory on your signature, it does reek of the $-talk phenomenom that TS is referring to, doesn't it? I think putting a Canon 5DMk2 is probably okay just to show some brand allegiance, put putting your entire dry cabinet collection e.g. 1dsMk3+50F1.2L+85F1.2L+200F2.8L+600F2.8L+LeicaM1-M9+ bla la...that's also leaning towards the phenomenon that TS mentioned.

again, i'm being neutral here... it's not targetted at anyone with equipment inventory on their signature :)

yup, it smacks of $ talk and it's a very unhealthy trend. It really 'cheapen' phtography and it's very sad:(

this is useful actually especially when u ask for help so whoever is answering your thread knows what equipments u are using. just like hwz, u can input your pc configuration as well. but i must admit some uses this as a way to show off their equipments.

photography is cheap if u are the type who is against higher end products, so you shouldn't be spending that much if this is the case. :bsmilie:

free speech lah..people can express their happiness at their equipment list (or the lack of it)

people can express their expertise (or the lack of it) by posting their images too..

$1 or $100,000 we are all in this cesspool.

oh,

GONG XI FA CAI, may your images be always :thumbsup: and your equipment list grow.

Huat ah!!

just like what i've posted in $5k club...

theres the "picture gallery" sub-forum if want to discuss photos...

this is "equipment discussion" sub-forum, its all about gears. how hard is that???

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
on a cycling forum, how many are discussing about their cycling techniques and how many are discussing their modifications & upgrades? its practically the same like photography...
I am not against spending on high end gears but there is a BIG difference between spending quietly and spending and shouting out loud abt yr purchases which is crass as someone posted:rolleyes:
if they want to shout let them be? It is not every time they can do that unless someone starts a thread on it.
unless u are sore over it cos u have nothing to shout about? :rolleyes:
let me give a couple of analogies
its ok to talk about your new phone.... ( its features, how great the LCD is etc... )
but its crass to talk about how much you paid for it
its ok to talk about your new car.... ( how fast it goes 0-100kmh, how good it takes corners etc...)
but its crass to talk about how much you spent on it
its ok to talk about your new house.... ( how roomy it is, how great the location is etc... )
but its crass to talk about how much you invested on it
its ok to talk about your camera gear.... ( i guess you get the drift.... )
im a nikon user.... but i support this thread.... i found it a bit crass people talking about the prices of their equipment instead of just letting their pictures do the talking for them...
:thumbsup:
you'll be surprised how many ppl can afford, but not many know how to wield it. i see a lot of people using 5DII using AUTO mode. its quite hilarious. they hold their cameras awkwardly too. but its no sin. if you can afford to drive lambo, why not even if you cant drive well?
Bro you missed the point. This isn’t a photo-vs-gear thing. It’s a Parody about equating Photography (gear or skill) to $-talk.
it is also very hilarious to see DSLR users with their pop up flash popping up flashing away while trying to shoot at buildings :bsmilie: i think entry level automatic modes (when u dun want the pop up flash pops up it still pops up) is more hilarious then the automatic modes on 5DMKII (at least the AV, Shutter modes etc wun cause pop up flash embarrassments).
the point is u dun need to be very skillful to use a DSLR. as long as u got class 3 license and can afford a lambo, why not? just dun bang and kill someone on the road if u speed.
DSLR is a tool aka equipment used by the wielder to create a work. you cannot shoot a photo without a camera (even if u are using a hp camera).
as long as you can afford your tool, so be it.
ppl want to flaunt, let them flaunt (they are not wrong and it is not against the law, unless u are feeling sore and sour grapes). the photos taken by them will speak for the skills they had but then again, it doesn't means having a high end equipment means u must have good photos.
everything i said sounds contradicting right? yes, you are right, life is always contradicting. so let those who want to flaunt, let them flaunt, you just shoot yours, they shoot theirs. and life goes on.
Poor TS... a parody went wrong :bsmilie:
If at the end of this thread, you bring a smile to at least 1 person, you've succeed in creating the parody...
At least you have mine :bsmilie:
Aiya
At the end of the day, as long as the user is happy, who cares?
Have seen many individuals buying DSLR nowadays, but they don't really bother to learn how to weld it.
They just put it in auto mode and flash everyone's daylights out in the middle of everywhere. Kind of sad considering how much they spend on it.
$1 vs 5K vs 10k worth of equipment, it's all worth it when we upload our photos and see the products of our passion.
But still, TS made my day with this thread.
:)
