Anyway, where did you get this info on the E-M5? BTW, what is the E3 and E5 IP rating? In any case, I have taken a tumble into surf at the beach while holding my E3. The E3 was completely underwater momentarily and when I recovered, it was all wet, as well as I was, with sand all over the camera.

I just continued shooting and when I went back to the hotel a few hours later, just washed it off with tap water (to remove salt and sand residues) and then let it all sit dry. The E3 din even miss a heart beat throughout this thing. Continued to work as if nothing happened. That must give it an IP rating of at least 4, plus its salt water...although the duration of exposure was not 5 minutes.

But I would say that the rating is probably a little conservative. For sure, I have used the E3 in torrential downpours with the camera helds lens down. That should be a good IP rating of 3.

You can find it in the user manual, in the specifications section near the end. Strangely, the E-3 and E-5 manuals do not mention weather-proofing in the specifications.

Then again, I think the IEC IP rating is not that important in actual use. I have shot with my non-sealed EOS 60D and 15-85mm lens in the rain and in front of waterfalls. No hiccup at all. Most enthusiast to semi-pro DSLRs are at least drizzle-proof. They are certainly not "made of tofu". ;) The E-3 and E-5 are supposed to be professional models with weather sealing equivalent to EOS 7D or even better, so I wouldn't worry about using them in a downpour. (The DigitalRevTV team used their 5D Mk II and 7D in a typhoon!)

Quoting Olympus: "Thanks to extensive use of ring-shaped seals throughout the body, the OM-D offers the same dust & splash proof durability as the E-5 within a compact and light-weight body. From normal shooting in the rain to more extreme environments, the OM-D lets you focus on shooting by protecting the camera against sand, dust, rain and splashes." This should be enough reassurance.

This camera is quite rugged. Took the review set for a "ride" on a multicopter, and had a hard landing on a muddy patch. No issues with the camera at all, whereas one of my landing skid was bent. :)

That is a very cool setup! It kind of reminds me of those spy drones used by the military (or geeky peeping toms in comedies). :D

How did the 12mm f/2.0 lens do after the splashdown? Did you hose off the mud? My biggest wish after getting the E-M5 would be for Olympus and Panasonic to release weather-sealed versions of their best prime lenses, i.e. 12mm f/2.0, 25mm f/1.4 and 45mm f/1.8. Maybe for 20mm f/1.7 and 45mm f/2.8 Macro too.

Cool setting on multicopter! You got your silver OMD Em5 already?
How was it???

I do not have one, it was a the same set that was for review here http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/reviews/1063351-olympus-om-d-e-m5-first-impressions.html . I took it for a "spin" and did video mode on it. But because of the multi rotor setting it was jerky (no fault of the OM-D) as such it would do injustice to the camera if I show the video. I find the camera live up to its look, really tempted to get one. My daughter is begging me for one :)

I have to use drops of water to slowly get off the mud from the lens (the image was taken after I clean up abit), after which use blower and lens paper. I did a few more sorties and took some more videos, the 12mm f2 lens is superb :thumbsup:

Thanks for your reply. I am still awaiting the reviews from fellows here once they have their hands on OMD EM5 before I can decide to buy one for myself.

Is the OS in Japanese? Or can customise using the menu options?

Yes, it's in Japanese but very easily customized. But I can read Japanese, so maybe easy for me.
But not very difficult..... just a few steps and can select a whole bunch of different languages.

Thanks. The camera looks great. The lens looks big in the photos you posted, but I've seen the actual lens and it's quite compact really. Still waiting for my order to arrive in the shops here. Dunno why Singapore is taking so long to get the stocks. Sianzzz.

It's actually quite small, because the camera body itself is small.
But yeah, compared to the camera the lens is a little big, probably due to the fact that it doesn't extend and it's weather-sealed.

Yeah.... very sian that local stores are so slow. So far only Japan and Hong Kong have stocks.
Too bad I desperately needed this camera for my trip, so I had to pay a LOT more for it. :(

And it's very ironic for me..... I bought this from Japan, imported it and paid shipping + GST..... only to bring it back to Japan. :o

Nevermind... Happy then good!!! Congrats on being one of the first OM-D E-M5 owner in Singapore!! Enjoy the camera!!! I will have to continue to wait long long haha..

OMG, you're probably one of the first few owners in SG.

BTW I thought the color of the lenses are suppose to be in respect to its body ?

Still no call from the local shops. :(

I was told by MSC is this week. waiting...

Nope. Black kit lens regardless of color of body.

When did you contact MSC? Did they give an indication of which day of this week?

only black, so no choice. But i like black so its ok

I pre-ordered the black E-M5 with 12-50 kit lens from MSC, too. I had a choice between silver and black, but I think the black is more discreet. Hope to get my hands on the camera soon!
