That's good to hear bro..... I usually take my boy in indoor setting.... most of the time "forced" to use flash as dont want to up ISO due to noise.... but flash sometime can give that "unnatural" look..... of course my skill or lack of it play a part too lar...:rolleyes:

Btw, lets say I am looking at paring 2 lenses (max 3 lenses), which will be the most "value for $$$" setup for you guys..... need 1 prime at 30/35mm, one 17-50mmf2.8 range.... and throw in a metz flash.... what's the damage (to the heart and wallet)...:rolleyes:

If want to use flash, must bounce la. Cannot flash direct. I'm no expert but i normally bounce off my ceiling. Effects not so harsh. More natural.

For your style, i think the most value for money choice for 17-50 is the tamron (500-600). 35mm, consider the DA35 f2.4 (200+).

Thank all bro for the advise... will find a time to go check it out..... need to feel the body and caress and molest... I mean hands-on...:p... to have a better feel.... see if it can "talk" to me....

..... and K5 come along with good price and all that.... so was thinking of maybe trying out Pentax..... with the poisonous injection every time I read........ without any system commitment now, easier or maybe tougher to make a choice...... :roll eyes:...... just need time to read and learn more lar..... about Pentax system..... my usage range is are 17 to 80mm (for general use) and a erershort prime of 30/35mm for taking Potrait of my boy...... just not sure what Pentax can offer (which is in the value for $$$ range)..... unlike Nikon 17-55mm which is good but way out of budget and my usage does not justify it)

Few questions to ask though.....

1. how effective is the SR on K5... getting old and hand not stable..... even with 17-50mm or 35mm.... feel that my hand is shaking too much to get sharp pics.... :roll eyes:

2. how often you guys uses flash??? Now with K5, D7000 and 7D all having good ISO performance, do you still require flash?? Not talking about dark places.... but rather indoor shots?? That is another concern as I am not sure about Pentax/Metz flash lights?

I don't think a change in system this way will make too much difference.
K5 with tamron 17-50, you might as well have used that same lens on nikon or canon.

Of course now that you don't have a system, you can get any brand, but getting any brand body then using a 3rd party lens kind of defeats the purpose. Pentax is unique among the brands because of its lenses. Small, smc contrast and properties, handling of color and perhaps bokeh. Not saying that its better, but certainly characteristic to pentax.

But current price of FA43 is $10xx, and DA* at $13xx. The FA are Limited lenses so the price is about there. The DA are cheaper and the DA* are the best for APS-C.

I got my FA43 just before the price went up to $799 in 2009. Then it slowly crept upwards . . . until the price today . . . My DA* was bought in between distributors so got it with no warranty . . . but luckily it is a good copy.

At least you got something worth it and working fine good for you but not so good for upcoming pentax newbies like me hahahaha

But if I want the FA31, then die liao, it is almost $1.5k

The FA Limiteds were meant for Autofocus SLRs in film era and we can use them on DSLRs too but the build quality is awesome and solid metal. That is whythe high price, but the newer versions are all Made In Vietnam. if you can find a MIJ version, be prepared to pay more.

Finally bought my K5 after one week of calling and reserving it from Orient Photo. Bought it at $1220. It's actually the set with 18-135mm kit lens but they were kind enough to separate the set and sell it to me. Bought a 35mm Ltd macro to go with it! So far so good... but miss the ability to zoom. Tempted to get a Tamron but its QC and front/backfocus issues put me off :(

You can probably start with 35/2.4.
Pentax lenses are generally already value for money compared to most brands.
Indoors though, don't expect wonders.
High iso has become better than cameras 2-3yrs ago, but if you have low tolerance to noise, its still going to be 'too much.

Staying with pentax lenses with a bigger budget,
16-50; 50-135

Primes,
All the DA and FA limiteds

Else go for
tamron 17-50; 70-200.

Just do a search, but don't expect everyone to sell at the same lowest price you find from sale history.
Some bought stuff when us$ was 1.5 or 1.7, and various other reasons.
Other times, you pay a bit more for an old lens compared to ebay or us, but you can try out before purchase and be sure the thing gets to your hands, so factor that in too.

if under 1.5 still believe hahaha US has been downhill since I last join a company where hits recent headlines like hotcakes hahaha. As you say try out before purchase means I can try out at shops like SLR before buying?
