On the contrary, yesterday on a bus to a relative's house, one PRC lady came to ask me how many more stops to her destination. I told her I do not know as I do not stay around there, and ask her to consult the bus driver. She told me she could not speak English and the bus driver is an indian.

I guess she would have appreciated a PRC bus driver then.

hong bao na lai:vhappy:

all the bus drivers must be sad

everyone celebrate chinese new year, but they still have to work.

what is one's duty as a bus driver? what is sbstransit.com.sg for? what are the many signs on bus-stops posted for? the last time i was in singapore, i could get lost anywhere, all the bus stops had detailed guidance on where each bus was going. is giving directions and communication with passengers an integral part of being a "bus driver"?

instead of examining others' actions, commenting on wastage of money.. why not examine ourselves? if everyone does that, the world will be a far better place.

the service sectors is like that. They know before they come that they have to work through the festive periods. With more foreign workers, the locals get freed up to go home and celebrate cny. As for the foreigners, they do have their mini celebrations at work and at home. it aint that bad since their family is not here and their only friends are from work. So, it does not really matter if they dont have a rest day. They will call home for sure though with season's greetings.

wow. you're genius you have answers for everything. everything is so black and white for you...i wished it was for me too... yes they should be able to communicate with their passengers...bus stop sign boards can only tell you so much with the limited information they have there, so sometimes passengers need a little bit more information from a helpful bus driver who plys the route every day and knows it well enough to assist.... check internet, sure..if they're at home then no problem..can check gothere.sg ....what if they're not? not everyone owns a iphone, blackberry or whatever other PDA that allows them to have internet access on the go

no wonder singapore is such an unfriendly place, if we all stick to just our sole job occupation! "sorry can't you..not within my job scope..go find the toilet on your own while i stand here and wait for customers...just don't pee on my floor..no i said i won't tell you..i don't care how urgent you are...it's not within my job scope"

black and white?

missed the main point.

there are always two sides of a story, i can see yours, but it seems like when your medicine is applied from another point of view, you cannot take it. unfriendly? of course! you demand people who have not spoken english ever to speak english immediately. given time, they might, they are not frogs living at the bottom of a well. but have you given them that chance?

good day.

there is a reason why english is our 1st language in S'pore. it cuts across language barriers.

dude, that wasn't even your main point! your point apart from bus drivers being very sad on cny is that their job is not to communicate with the passengers! and that passengers shouldn't rely on them at all, with all the help from bus stop signs and the internet. that was what i was commenting on. i take issue with that, that their role in their occupation is just limited to driving. i do however, concede that it will require time for them to learn english - which was not the main point of your earlier post.

maybe the price of going cheap (as in lower labour costs) is inconvenience (language barrier) for customers who take our public transport...

kindness begets kindness :)
and a harsh reply will get another harsh reply in defense
which in turn get another harsh reply

and this is flamebaiting, which is against the terms of use
