Hi
I just did an Audit of my Dry boxes's power consumption with those
Wattage measuring plugs that you can buy now for around $60.00 (some sell them
as high as $90-$120). When Buying electrical stuff, Sim Lim Tower is very
reasonable.

My Dry Boxes consume
----------------------------------------------
Cost is estimated on 20% rise in price Starting October 2008 to December 31
and also my estimate as there is no direct entry of watts

BRand ------ ACtive --------Idle (not drying but 'on') -----------Assume full on 24x7
================================================== ==============
Digi Cabi --- 5 watts ------- 1.4watts $ < 2.00 per month ----- $2.50
AM-PRO #1 --- 6 watts ------- 0 watts $< 1.00 per month ----- $2.50
Am-pro #2 --- 25 watts ------- 0 watt $< 3.00 A month ------ $6.00

However I had a small AM-PRO and I measured it and it
was consuming 25 Watts (1/2 power of a FAN) when it was on!!!

So if you dont want to waste money for nothing
just audit all your stuff to check what the IDLE COST is
of all your equipment.

If you are not happy with the IDLE power consumption
then you might want to consider a Timer that allow
you to run things every 2 or 3 hours..

I suggest for dry cabinets you can run them only at night
with a timer if your consumption is not acceptable to you.

which 1 better? fungus or cost saving of few bucks?

If one can afford all those DSLR and lenses, I dont see what a saving of $6 per month is to them.

Same logic as buying a car but not driving it because petrol is rising.:dunno:

or park at a open field which is few blocks away since it is free??? :bsmilie:

basically if you want to save a few ¢ per months
you can switch the dry cabinet off when the air con is on

Good analysis. It is nice to know how much the power consumption is against cost of operating it.

However I will not switch it off as I want to protect my camera, lens, filters and so on.

don't blame your camera even if fungus grows. hahahaha. :P it's not the fungus. it's the photographer!! :D

Probably you spend more by switching on the air con than by leaving the dry cabi power on. :bsmilie:

$6 is insignificant per month :bsmilie:

just think about the ERP you are paying per day.... $6 per month for drycab is cheap already.

switch to Dry Box + Silical Gel will offer you the best savings
