Is the 3 spot dust? :dunno:

Dry cabinet is essential. Another very cheap way to keep your camera is to have an air tight box and silicon gel in it to remove mositure in the box. Silicon gel have to be changed approx. once a month or two.

But of course, if you are staying near the coast, dry cabinet is a must.
Cheaper cabinet cost about $100-$200, made in taiwan. For those made in japan, it definitely be more expensive, with the same capacity. Hope it helps...

yup that is dust .....Dust for DSLR is normal ... mine also got 4 dust... just send to nikon for cleaning ..

Catch, those look like dust to me, if you wanna test for hot/dead pixels, shoot against a white and totally black background and compare. Shoot at the smallest f stop and view on the screen.

How does a hot/dead pixel looks like?

It will appear as a white spot or dot on your image..

yea. take a few consecutive shots. the white/red/blue spot should still be in the same place. that's a hot/dead pixel

Does the D70 have different box design?
Just saw someone selling D70 at hardware zone but the box design is different from what i've seen (black with gold color).

That is the actually packaging for the Nikon D70+18-70 kit set.. the initial kit set was pushed out as a Camera and Lens boxed saparately mainly to hit the stores as fast as possible without delay of packaging.

A very good strategy in my opinion.

Didn't know how ESPN got a good deal for 50L Dry cabinet for $88. Just got my 30L Dry cabinet ( Digi-Cabi ) from Carrefour @ S$ 99.00 :D

Is there anyway to prevent or minimize dust from occuring after cleaning?

When changing lenses point the mount downwards, don't use a blower and blow into the mounting area.

Basically, you can't avoid dust. ;)

I have tons of it.. but since you hardly shoot at f/11 and up... nothing much to worry. Else send for cleaning everyday since still under warranty...heehee...

espn,

firstly - can you please enlighten why dust is nothing to worry about if you shoot at f/11 and up. Does it mean that there will be effects if pictures are shot below f/11. What are the effects?

secondly - I read in one of your post somewhere that on a digital camera f/2.8 has an equivalent of f/8 on a film SLR. Can you explain the conversion of f number between digital and film? I understand 1.5 factor of lenses for digital and film but not the aperture.

Thanks.

The dust particles gets increasingly defined at smaller aperture. Wide open they are quite blur til the point of near transparent, and usually becoming noticable at f8 and beyond after a autolevel. Macro and landscape shooters tend to hate it a lot cos they operate typically from f8 onwards.

hi

Last month, I bought my D70 camera from Suntec Fair but was told to collect my lens from Alan Photo as they have ran out of stock. I tried to call Alan Photo about the collection of my lens but was not successful. So has anyone collected from them yet?

Bobbi.
