strap oso must buy?? not in the bundle package meh?
then this Optech strap cost how much?

$25 to30. the original strap in the bundle is not padded like the OptechUSA camera straps.

Well if you are new and do not have any camera accessories as yet, don't forget a lens cleaner just in case. Well it will add up to more than you want it to be later if you start to add lens and what about flash and tripot ?. I find dry cabinet not so essential for a start. Maybe later once you start to acquire lens but go for the biggest ones you can afford. I have 2 100 litre and still not enough but must admit that I put nonsense inside.

get a good blower too. ask the shops to recommend one.

Hi,

I bought a 1GB Lexar 40X Professional series CF card from Alan Photo for $450 (inclusive of GST) last night. Took the last piece but new stock should be available today. AP is also selling the 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II for $495 (inclusive of GST). If you are going for the Ultra II, try ask Cathay to match the price.

Cheers!

I got my optech camera strap at $20 from CP, you should be able to get it cheaper if you bargain, I was a tad lazy since it's NY's eve that day.

My advice for CF card is to go for at least a Lexar, after formatting it 3 times, I'm still able to retrieve up to 300 shots taken since the formatting. A Lexar 1GB @ Eastgear last price is $480/-.

A cabinet is important because your lenses collection will grow and a box will not contain them anymore. A 50L @ Carrefour is about $88/-.

$20 for a optech strap is reasonable, will try to bargain. :rbounce:
i believe the 50L cabinet is a sales item sometime back last year during their anniversary. now i dun think can get at this price. :nono:

extra extra $$$ :sweat:

Body+lens= $2100
CF 512 = $450 est
Cabinet = $88 est
Strap = $20
Lens cleaner = $20 est
Blower = $10 est

Total = Abt $2700 :hung: :hung: :hung:

For $450, you should be able to get a 1GB, 512mb is probably $220+ and thereabouts.

Dude, the $450 price is for a 1GB not 512.

Strap can buy later, lens cleaner not impt, a UV filter for lens protection more important. You'd prefer to clean the UV filter than clean lens cos of the coating on the element.

Join us for coffee tomorrow and we can tell you lots more! :devil:

you can use the e-quote feature on cathay photo's website if you are not familar with any salesman and are worried abt getting a "good" deal.

The D70 kit is abt $2100 incl GST, at CP.

I would suggest a 1GB CF but if budget restrictions are in place, a Hagiwara 1GB (orange) @ $360+, would be a cheaper option compared to Lexar @ $420 and Sandisk UltraII @$495.

The savings of $100+ can be use to get a 30L dry cabiniet as a starter.

The speed difference btw the Hagiwara and Lexar is not so noticeable in single shots, only in bursts of 4 RAW...ete, you will see the difference.

you will need a flash too, either the SB-800 or the SB-600 (Only available after May). which support the i-TTL is recommended.

Getting a DSLR is quite an hefty investment and hence, you can start by building up the kit slowly....
Getting alternatives like slower or normal speed CFs Vs High-speed ones, or getting a drybox with silica gel Vs dry cabinet, using 2nd hand lenses, flash and accessories...like camera bag instead of buying new ones.

You will be surprised at how much you can save, by considering alternatives instead of going for the best.

yoz thx to AJ23, espn and the rest for the clarification on the 1GB cost, i blur liao. :confused:

is there a mitup tomorrow??
i would like to join and learn more from all the expert out there but tomorrow i have another club mitup oso at kallang, therefore unable to attend leh. :cheers:

Body + lens = $2100
1GB Hagi CF = $360
Using Drybox instead = $30 + $3.50 (silica gel)
Use provided strap = $0
B+W Lens pen = $10
Blower = $10
2nd hand Lowepro bag (for example.. Nova series.1 or 2..) = $40-50

Total = $2563.50

Not including a SB-800 @ $650.

Save Save Save!!! Thx bro, i will go for alternatives due to budget constraint, ie 2nd camera bag, drybox with silica gel, hagiwara CF,
extra lens will have indent later.
MS e-quote takes years to reply. CP better. :lovegrin:

CP has been informed by Nikon SG to sell at $2100 and no less, hard to bargain even with e-quote.

Why not we compare the speed & efficiency + WA and image recovery s/w that comes with the Lexar over the Hagiwara? :) There are times the bursts come in useful. I find the price is very worth it, the Hagiwara to me is just a normal CF and not worth the effort. Call me snob. But I am!! :devil:

I agree on 2nd hand lenses, flash, not really, but only if the condition is good. Camera bags can wait, but you do need proper padding for lenses. Slower CF is not advisable. I almost cried using a 25x transcend.

Dry box is not advisable as mentioned and since items do increase, justify your purchase with what you have, if you can spend $2100 on a camera + lens, what's a $88 cabinet?

any ideal how much is the UV filter cost and what types must i purchase? any brand to recommend? Thx.
I dun think i like the idea of cleaning the lens due to coating.

Can consider the B+W MRC 010 Haze UV filter, personally strongly recommend it... (yeah yeah call me a snob again...).

Compare the the Hoya and the B+W against a newspaper, you'll see the difference.

seem like 1 GB CF for Lexar or Scandisk Ultra is a better choice than Hagiwara although they are more expensive. :cheergal:

Depends on thread size.

Last prices I know:

52mm - $37
72mm - $73
77mm - $88

Hoya is another brand.

You can get a Hagiwara, and like what we did to BeachBoy, if we can easily covert him over to Lexar, we can do the same to you :devil:
