Yes, we are not able to honour warranties for products which were after all bought from Shiro. However, all products, Pentax or otherwise, bought from Emjay Enterprises in the local market will naturally be covered by our warranties.
Hello Pentexians
WTF! Does that mean the warranty on the DA*16-50 I bought in Feb this year, from an authorized local Pentax dealer will not be honored by Pentax?
Is that the official Pentax policy?
If this is indeed true, then it's simply not acceptable. :thumbsd:
I bought a lens branded 'PENTAX', not 'Shriro' or 'MJ', so I expect Pentax and whoever is their representative in Singapore to stand behind their product and honor the warranty. Whom Pentax decides to appoint their distributor is none of my business...it's their internal matter, but I expect Pentax to be ultimately responsible.
Otherwise, it would be the very last Pentax related purchase I make, that's for sure :thumbsd:
If I have misinterpreted your statement (I don't think I have) then apologies in advance.
could be some contract obligations/terms that limits this... hopefully some form of compromise could be reach...

Our sales & service operations start from 1st May. As you know, the brand has been dormant for the past 3 quarters but naturally, we intend to revive Pentex in Singapore and push it as far and hard as we can and hope that one day, it becomes a large and popular brand. This is a sad sad day for us Pentaxians...
With every change of distributor, it gets worst. I have gone thru 3 distributors - Rank O'conner, J&J and Shirio; nothing seems to improve.
Maybe it's time to look at that Nikon.
Supporting past distributorship's warranty is no different from supporting International warranty. It is part of the job.
Yeah, it should be possible to honour international warranty - provided Pentax Japan reimburse the service cost.
Alternatively, appoint a reputable camera workshop as the regional service center. Future changes in distri will have little impact on warranty issue.
The market size is too small for Pentax Japan to support a Singapore outpost; so having a distri is still best way to sell into Singapore. Usually a distri is given a certain % of sales as the warranty cost for supporting aftersales issues. It is easily to guess that % is not transferred from old distri to the new one.
We cannot expect MJ to make loss on 1st day of biz to support warranty issues rite? Unless Pentax HQ agrees to back MJ, there's little use making threats. Best for MJ to relate the situation to principal carefully.
