Bro read lah the pages:
Greetings to all Pentaxians and I hope you all had a good time during this long weekend. Hopefully, some of you also got a few good snaps with your trusty Pentaxes.

Sorry for the long wait but here's the anticipated annoucement- Emjay Enterprises will honour all Pentax warranties.

Some of you here have shown some insight (or foresight) into the concerns that a distributor faces here. To this, might I add this: the reality for Emjay Enterprises, Pentax and all Pentaxians here is that Singapore is a market that is small, mature and saturated (triple jepordy!) so what more for a brand that lacks size and the recognition of Pentax? Nonetheless, we will move on and hopefully, move up!

Keep watching this forum as we post new annoucements in future and thanks for all the feedback and patience.

Having sent a lens to Japan for repair of the lens hood, service from Pentax Japan is prompt and good.

My take is the domestic warranty that was issued by Shriro for items sold in Singapore while it was the distributor may not be transferable, though this needs to be clarified by Emjay. We have to bear in mind we were dealing with an intermediary who accords warranty service, not Pentax itself - Shriro issued the warranty. Once Shriro no longer represents Pentax, it may not have the ability nor obligation to service or repair due to lack of equipment and parts or manpower. ....

Well, it may not have the ability but it would certainly have the obligation, if the warranty is effectively a contract between Shriro and the customer. The warranty obligation must fall either on Shriro or on Pentax - one or the other, depending on the wording. It's not the obligation of the new guys, although I would have thought this could be covered in the terms whereby Shriro withdrew and the new people took over. I would have expected, for example, the new guys to handle the work with the costs being covered by Pentax in some way.

The new distributor, who couldn't even spell the brand correctly, has obviously not yet got his act together, although it is good to see him making an appearance here.

(Sorry if these points have already been made - haven't yet got to the end of this long thread!)

EDIT EDIT - now I have read to the end and I realise this post has been overtaken by events and is all crap.

I imagine Shriro packed in the distributorship because they were losing money on it. But to say their marketing was lacklustre would be an understatement.

Kelvin was always friendly and efficient in my experience. He was the bright spot.

OK - I have got to the end now and, since it has a happy ending, I'll shut up!

Cheers, and good luck to the new guys ...

Frankly, I have 2 brands when i was using SLRs, The Canon AE-1 and the Pentax Z-20, but when Canon switched mounts and let the FD mount die hards "stranded", I stayed with Pentax as all their oldd lenses could still be used.

Yeah I was another of those people stranded by the abandonment of the FD mount --- never felt quite the same about Canon after that. Although my AE-1 soldiered on ...
