If anyone want to organise up a canon user group, the Canon Digital Lab @ Digital Media Hub could be used as your "base camp" or meeting point.

We (CDL) are in constant communications with Canon marketing therefore could be a link between users and Canon. You are most welcome to use our place for meetup or organising activities.

Very good suggestion! When I go to bugis & saw this building 'Canon Digital Lab @ Digital Media Hub'...wonder what is this building for?

Naming of the group or club is not so important...btw who is the person who decide the name of the club/group? Official or unofficial?

The old Canon club did not just close because of economic downturn.
I think there was more to it.
The Canon mgt may have decided the best thing to do was to close the club.
VERY WISE. :p
They bit the bullet.

If anyone ever sets up the Canon Club again.
Enshrine these basic constitutional rules:

1. No committe member from the most junior to the President of the Canon Club should serve more than 1 consecutive term. And 5 years should pass before any one of them ever again holds any other office/committee position.

2. The term of office holders should be maximum 1 year. No extension allowed. If no person avaliable then leave the post empty. If necessary close the "club", due to lack of office holders but never ever tolerate clique-control.

You have no idea how important these basic rules are. Until you realise a group of people have entrenched themselves into the system (even with voting and so on...) and like parasites are impossible to get rid of; until in the end you decide to kill the patient in order to stop the disease.

Don't make the same mistakes that other people made if you ever set up this new Canon "club".
It should be about enjoying photography and not about politics.

Do we actually want to organise it as an official thingy with forming of a committe or just a simple gathering for Canon Users? :dunno:

However, I feel that some rules need to spell out clearly. First of all, this gathering SHOULD be exclusive meant for Canon Users. This is to make the gathering more cohesive. We should not have a mixed bag of users in our group so that everyone speaks the same language.

Secondly, the location of the gathering should be convenient for everyone if possible. In this instance, Canon Digital Hub at Bugis sounds like a good location. ;p We should stay away from Peninsula area.

Thirdly, I do hope that Canon will support any outings that we might organise in the future. Support such as lending of lenses / Camera Bodies, etc. ;p

Hmm.... U guys sure u want to form a committee of sorts? Those wif things like Club President, Vice-President, Secretary, Secretary General, Major, Colonel, Lieutenant, etc, etc? :o

I'm not particularly against this kinda committee thingy, but I'm sure all of us are busy working adults having to juggle both work and family committments. Now throw a CUG, CPS, Jedi Council, whatever thing onto u, whoever's da Club President will be banging head for 20mins every weekend during gatherings to relieve da stress.

Anyway, this CUG, CPS, Jedi Council thing would be good for everyone. Not only juz Canonites. Maybe can organise photo outings (both local and overseas), shoots, etc. But maybe Canonites pay slightly lesser den non-Canonites. Maybe help in Canon's Marketing drive (ok, dis one maybe will appeal to those working in Canon Marketing Dept). Can promote photography as well. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Maybe in terms of membership make it slightly different loh. Kinda like a Canon Exclusive Membership (open maybe to Canon Equipment Holder) and Ordinary Membership (those with other equipments like Nikon, Pentax, Minolta, Leica, etc, etc) kinda thingy.

In dis way, other ppl happy, we happy, everyone happy.

Juz a wild crazy thought. If it feels cock to u, juz ignore me. :)

cool!

how about CanonXchange? :)
that name sounds good.. but ppl who don't know, may just think that it's a stock exchange :bsmilie:

i think have a user group with website/forum where canonites can interact and speak of own language is better than having things like chairman, vice chairman etc...

like some of u have suggested, i will be very happy if canon recognise this user group..
@ jsbn, help canon marketing drive.. how? ermm.. i gonna send u a PM very soon regarding this ;)

oh btw, shall we have own website? hopefully clubsnap also support it... then can link direct frm here... dunno if it's possible :dunno:

When? If time allows, will be there! :D

har?? no lar.. we are just discussing on how to start up with this group...

not organising outing yet :)

Canon A40 user can join or not? hehe

i think can.. quoting from big or small can come in. hope to go out with the canon users to shoot soon!!

I think should not use CPS.
What if ppl ask (again) : What is CPS?
Then gotto reply, Canon Professional Service .....
& Canon Photography Society .....

Hi.

It really make me wonder whether there's a need for an exclusive group for Canon. We've done this and gone through this before.

I'm all for the idea for people to come together to share their learning journey on photography ... that's one of the key reasons why ClubSNAP is born. Let's not turn this into an exercise just because other so-call 'competiting' usergroups are gaining grounds or worse still, starting one for the sake of starting it.

Finally, let's ask ourselves a serious question. Does having a Canon User Group help to improve anything tangibly other than getting a 'spiritual' identity?

In short, I feel there's no need to have one for Canon and there's nothing wrong to be unique ... in fact it'll work to our 'advantage' by remaining what we are ... unique in our own right.

Just my 2 cents. :)

What about Canon Society of Intelligence

The Canon Digital Lab is setup for new camera owner training and also just as important to act as a contact/meeting point and resource center for ALL Canon users regardless of model, new or old.

Hopefully, we can get some regular people to hang out to help other camera owners on their problems or share knowledge on photo or video graphy. Anyone would like to volunteer to hang around to help other owners the would be great! :D ;p maybe we can work out some incentive for these people ;) You could organise, activities or events (btw we've a photo studio too), advance users users can run courses to share tips and techniques, and dialog session with professionals or Canon staff.
