The Canon Digital Lab is setup for new camera owner training and also just as important to act as a contact/meeting point and resource center for ALL Canon users regardless of model, new or old.

Hopefully, we can get some regular people to hang out to help other camera owners on their problems or share knowledge on photo or video graphy. Anyone would like to volunteer to hang around to help other owners the would be great! :D ;p maybe we can work out some incentive for these people ;) You could organise, activities or events (btw we've a photo studio too), advance users users can run courses to share tips and techniques, and dialog session with professionals or Canon staff.
erm.. TechMage, i assume u are a staff from there?
wow.. great.. do we need to pay $$ for usage of studio etc there?
is it soundproof? i gonna send u a PM on usage charge :)

seems like this will be the meeting place.

If the group be organised in the way that USM suggested, then I would have to admit that the other group would then say that the group is brand biased. In the end, there will be frequent flame wars between the two groups.

Thus, in the end it might be pointless.

I do agree with what Adam mentioned. Let's just remain who we are and just not meet. CS is good enough to share our photography experiences and journies in our time of learning.

Seriously, these meetups are plain boring. I rather go for a critique session as my intentions are to learn to get a better picture, regardless of the system used.

Yeap,

You can find more information on this link

Of course you can always drop by CDL

Hi TechMage, thanks for providing the meeting place.

As I have expected, we will not get 100% positive responses from all the Canon Users. Some will feel that it's a waste of time, plain boring, flame wars, etc.

Like what we have initially stated, there is no need to form any committee, no membership fee required, non-compulsory, etc. If you are free, then just drop by the place. Nobody point a gun at you to ask you to come. If you think it's a waste of time, then why Country Clubs / Golf Clubs, etc are formed? They exist for a reason / objective.

The main reason why this gathering should be exclusively for Canon Users is to prevent comparison in the group / venue itself. Can you imagine users from Nikon, Minlota, Pentax, etc attend this gathering? Everyone will be comparing their brands equipment against each other. Then it will defeat the purpose of such gathering.

Furthermore, if you have other objectives, you can always join other non-Canon outings or use CS as a platform, etc.

There are just too many talking without any actions taken. We have to be Swift and Decisive.

Let the White Knights rise! Shall we meet on 4 of May 2005, Wednesday at Canon Digital Lab.

TechMage, can you provide us with the timing available for meeting up? :)

!!! Wednesday... wat time? aww.. hopefully i'm allowed to attend tues, or friday after school class, so that i can attend this meeting

will like to join but weekdays ??? hiaz cant make it

sounds interesting! Count me in..

Just a sidenote, Canon Japan's official user club is called Canon Circle.

How about
CanonSnap?
Then other user groups can call NikonSnap, OlympusSnap, SonySnap, MinoltaSnap etc..... Afterall all members are ffrom the parent ClubSnap. :)

yes i concur with you... its just equipment wankering most of the time, too much inferoir complex at work, comparing hardware, and upgrading senselessly.

End of the day it is still about equipment (is it not Canon?). It is still better to go out with people that has other equipment other than your own (eg different brands) so you will not get that Buy Buy Buy effect on yourself. IMO there are a lot of resources online to provide you the information to make an informed decision. As for newbies, get them to learn using the search function either here or www.google.com
:bsmilie: the nikon user speaks! how's life since ubin dude?
