Why cry?

Life is short. No need to think so much. Just do it. ;p BBB.

I always wanted a 1D MKII but price wise is too ex...
Now 7D the spec is little brother of 1D and still not too ex compare to 1D......

Dont think just buy..!!!
bro you are really passing me the BBB virus....:bsmilie:

True but it becomes like a follower instead of a leader.

Canon still do not offer spot metering that can be tied to individual AF point. Size of spot metering is also not customizable.

Exposure bracketing is still stuck at 3 frames, right?

Honestly, when it comes to features, they have some ways to go... Or maybe they've reserved them for their 1D/1Ds series... :bsmilie:

PS:
Why are we allowed to pick only ONE option in the poll? I am getting both the 7D as well as the 100 macro lens. :bsmilie:

Bro, do you mean 1D mk III and not 1D mk II? If it is the latter, then it will only cost you around $2,000 while the EOS 7D is around $2,500++.

However, given the price difference of $500++, I would go for EOS 7D.

On the other hand, if you are comparing it aganist EOS 1D mk III, I will still go for EOS 7D. In today's technology, LCD screen resolution of 230K dot is already obsoleted. 10fps vs 8fps is not a great deal. Once you are shooting in a very harsh environment, then maybe the 1D mk III rugged body may be a better choice.

Ditto that. None of us are likely to be war photojournalists anytime soon. If the 7D delivers its features as promised, the 7D trumps the 1Dm3 in all practical aspects for us.

Just noticed one cool feature: in-out macro compensation tool on the 7D!

Ha... just the thing I need for my macro shooting.

That is one IMPORTANT feature (for me) missing in ALL Nikon cameras. :bsmilie:

4 years ago, the 1D2 offered 10 MP, 8 fps at US$4k.

Now, you have the 7D which offers 18 MP, 8 fps at US$1.7k.

Precisely, I am answering to that dude question, instead of being a leader, they rather be a follower. Most of Canon DLSRs features are copied from others.

I realised it after I posted the poll. Once posted, it cannot be edited liao.

Precisely, 1D mk III is already considered old liao in Sept 2009.

On a side note to all readers :

If you are a live-view lover, you will hate the EOS 1D mk III because it is the first generation of live-view in EOS. No AF at all. Moreover, at the price of above $4,000, do you want to buy it or rather spend it on EOS 7D which costs around $2,500 with the latest technologies.

The buffer on the 1D3 is still twice more from what I read in forums (15 on 7D vs 30 on 1D3). The 1D3 has dual card features that enable JPG and RAW to be written to different cards, which is important if you want to get the shots out immediately. 10fps and 8fps is different, but users upgrading from slower fps cameras will find either to be an upgrade.

Good news to all EOS 5D mk II users.

EOS 7D is also using the same battery LP-E6 as the EOS 5D mk II.

The 20D offered lots of innovative stuff when it was first released.

The number of ways to customize AF for the 7D is apparently quite staggering. However, these things are under the hood and need to be dug up.

Although it's nice to have cool features here and there, the most important thing in a camera is still its image quality and AF abilities. As long as Canon leads in these major areas, it's fine with me. (But they don't at the moment... we'll see how the 7D fares.)

Their lens line-up is still untouchable. :)

is 7D full-frame?

It is APS-C. What's all that obsession with FF? Apart from printing large (i.e., need for lots of pixels) and portrait shooting (control over DOF), FF offers few advantages. OK... I forgot about bragging rights. :bsmilie:

I want Canon to give another good news for all 5D Mark II users and that is to release a new firmware to have the video options found in 7D.

Of course, if you really wanted to compare in great details, there are definitely differences between 1D mk III and 7D. Two of which are buffer size and fps.

Maybe it is important to you, but for most users they are so negligible. How many users shoot like machine guns like 8fps or 10fps? Let be practical. Even if you do, does that mean 8fps cannot do the job? You really need the extra 2fps? Back in the old days, where 1-series can only shoot up to 8fps, there was no stopping photographers from around the world to get their images.

Therefore, the bottleline is what do you want to shoot, and then match a camera that suits it.

Unless the noise control is better than or as good as the old 5D, I think I am gonna give it a miss. Doesn't seem like a D300 killer IMHO.

based on samples i'm seeing on dpreview, noise control is similar to the 500D. Definitely below the D300s and D90, and should be below 5D too.

Thought I read that spot metering can be tied to selected AF Point? But I could be wrong coz been reading too many 7D specs lately so can't remember what are rumours and what are facts. ;p

Size of spot metering and 3 exposure bracketing still unchanged unfortunately.
