I am using a normal Hoya UV 58mm. The slightly better one will be the Hoya HMC. There are a few other brands also. I am not an expert, still quite new to digital photography. Before this was happily shooting with a rangefinder, all it had was a skylight filter. Could not really afford to experiment with film, too expensive. NightZ88 is using a Hoya cir-polarizer. Cerebrus, understand that you are going to buy the raynox tele converter DCR-1540PRO - 1.54X.
CAn i know whether is this converter better than the orginal cannon TC-DC58B 1.5x Teleconverter? Dun mention on the zoom as i think 0.04 diff is minimal, but i need to know whether the image quality and the sharpness as well the color is similar or is there a great diff?

For those who are interested in getting adapters, why not visit www.lensmateonline.com to check out the metal (aluminium) S2 (silver) or S3 (Black) version. 52mm is USD$22.95 and 58mm is USD $24.95. Shipping also depends on the weight of the package. Min is USD $12.00.
So assuming that there are 2 adapters in the pack of 1 pc 52mm and 1 pc 58mm or vice versa, the cost of the adapters is USD$44.90 + USD $12.00 = USD $56.90.

For a quick feel, you can buy polarised sunglass and see the effect with you own eyes! I have one (bought one 2+yrs back in Shell station, brand skyline), when you wear it, you can see patches on the glass of other cars......this is becase it filters off certain orientation of light wave (for car glass this is the tempered-stress pattern). So, same for taking pic of water, etc, it filters off the reflection portion of light. In another angle, it takes in less light, so slightly darker I presume.

Looking at the Lensmate site, the pictures seem almost to be similar. I think that you loose a bit of light using the Canon adapter though. Anyone know the cheapest price you can get for Original Canon Wide converter (WC-DC58A) and Tele Converter (TC-DC58B).
How much AP or MS is selling? Anyone have any idea ir enquire before? cos the retail price is $199 for both. but i dun think AP or MS are selling at this price. Should be much cheaper.

sorry to hijack the thread here as i am getting a bit desparate.
I am going to get a pentax as second phone this evening. It came with free 512SD card. Over the phone, the guy quotes me S$25 if to upgrade the free card to 1GB and S$70 for 2GB card. Both are Kingston standard, not Elitepro.
Is the deal worth it or i should just keep the free card and purchase the 2GB separately? i would prefer not to keep so many card around if can but again, if the upgrade deal is not worth it then i suppose i can keep the free card.

I got the Kingston ultimate 133x speed 1 gb SD card for $53.90 the 2gb ultimate only cost about 100++. Thus i dun't think the offer is worthwhile. Furthermore it is the normal speed which is rather cheap in the market now.

Just today, I was trying to take a picture of all the people in a meeting room sitting around a table and I just could not get all of them in the picture. I was backed up all the way to the corner of the room. So, I think a wide converter could have done the job?
I think I need the Canon adapter plus wide converter. The price at AP should be around $48 plus $165 if I am not mistaken. Are there any price or other advantages in buying third party products? Any suggestions? I notice that some of you mentioned filters etc. I suppose with the Canon accessories, filters etc may not be fitted?

The one advantage of some of the third party WC is that there is no loss of light. This way, you will get the same shutter speed & f# as if you were not using the adapter. Raynox is one that can do this, which is why some of us want to get it. Also, some of the thrid party WC let you screw on filters etc, which the Canon cannot do. I would recommend third party adapters. The Canon adapter is black plastic, seems very cheap. The third party adapters are from $45-60.tks said:
Yeah, a wide converter will do the job easily. Only thing is, how often will you use it? If you find that you always cannot get what you want to shoot into the frame, then it would be a good option. If you only find it a problem once in a while, then just stitch two frames together. Do note that you cannot use a polariser if you are doing stitching.
