My interest went down 2 notches hehe. Frankly if I have to pay retail price without the spyder, I have no good reason to get it from CP. Can get it anywhere. I'll check my regular contacts at CP. If I can wrangle a deal out of them I'll keep you posted;)

Checked with CP. As the promo is subsidised by Canon, we need the vouchers to redeem. So unless you know people who can donate to us by tomorrow, I guess we cannot take advantage of the deal.

well well that's really too bad......i just checked on sunday....prices at sim lim sq and funan are a tad lower than the retail price....cheapest i think was around $860+

Heya Neo,

Though I am currently happy with my iP5200 in terms of ink usage/vibrant colors/speed... I have some problems with B&W prints. Besides the obvious e.g. print quality (subjective) & paper size, would it make any economic sense if I upgrade my iP5200 to the Pro9000? Thanks mate. Cheers!

Hiya Hazmee,

If you are printing monochrome frequently, you might wanna wait for the Pro9500 which has dedicated black and grey inks. The Pro9000 is reportedly pretty good in b/w, but because it is only using one black ink to avoid colour casts, reviewers commented that it is slower when printing monochrome and you will not get the wider gradient of the Pro9500.

Thanks for the tips mate! ;) Can't wait for those printers to hit the shelves!

How much is Pro9500 and its cost and cartridges cost as well?

It's not out yet anywhere in the world, so it's still a mystery to the rest of the world... :dunno:

Hi guys,

Just started to get serious about prints. Want to get a good printer and a friend suggested
the canon 8500. Is it worth the $ or should i get the PRO 9000? Please advise.

Thanks.

If you're going to be doing predominantly colour, the Pro9000 is a great printer. Else, you'd have to wait for the Pro9500 with the extra grey/black inks. I'm collecting my Pro9000 tomorrow! :bsmilie:

Hi everyone,

The salesman at CP called me up today. Great news, as the Canon promo is over they have some stocks left to clear. So those interested can purchase the Pro9000 without the coupon while stocks last!

Now all I have to do is convince my CFO I need one...sigh...

That's indeed good news! Better get yours before the stocks run out again! I'm gonna collect mine later in the afternoon... :bsmilie:

Of course, the difficult part for you is to convince your CFO that you NEED the printer. If she agrees to let you buy, remember the first print that comes out of the Pro9000 must be a photo of her! ;)

Oh well... I'm still so going to wait for the Pro9500... :bsmilie:

Thanks man! Just went down to Cathay Photo to purchase one! Look forward to trying it out later!

Just collected my PIXMA Pro9000 printer... initial impression... the printer is hefty!

Lifting the printer out of the box is an event in itself... luckily I had my friend to help me. Nice and solid construction, and the set-up is really simple. Just pop in the CD, click the options on the screen, connect up the printer to the computer and everything goes along in less than 3 minutes! The printer uses infrared rays to calibrate the print head and nozzles automatically, which is really convenient... The entire set-up took less than 10 minutes from opening up the box to getting the print head calibrated and ready for printing... impressive!

One point worth mentioning... the printer comes with the Think Tanks individual ChromaLife100 cartridges which works with the LED indicator system. I inserted the Magenta ink into the PhotoMagenta slot by mistake, and the LED kept blinking to inform me that the ink was wrongly placed. When you have 8-inks, it's easy to mix up, so this LED system is really nice to have. By the way, when your ink is running low and needs to be replaced, the lights will also blink to tell you at one glance which is the one that needs replacing when you open up the printer. Nice!

Ok... have to go for dinner now... will update later when I get back to dinner and print some of my latest photos!

Had my first color print out on A3+ paper using the photo optimizer mode. Wow the prints blew me away....looked much better than on screen!

Got mine yesterday and went to eastgear to buy a pack of Hahnemuehle Photo Rag Satin A3 for B&W print. Gave my friend the print and his jaw drop when he found out that it was printed on a Pro9000. Think he might go to Cathay and EastGear today as well.

Anyone know who else beside EastGear sells Hahnemuehle papers here?
