Oh yes! Still going strong but with some dead pixels and also the rubber grip is totally stripped off. Can't go wrong with that f2 to f3 lens. Downgraded to taking pics of my toys where the swival screen is really useful... Mwa-hahahaha!
:bsmilie:
Wahahaa...but still amazing that its still surviving after so long. Great cam for its time.

The S90 looks very nice to me... f2.0-4.9 with 28-105mm range, finally there is a real replacement for my Lumix LX1. :-) Think the 10MP imager is a CMOS one similar to the GRD III. Was considering to get a 'high-end' IXUS and good that this camera appears. Its only weakness is lack of a flash hotshoe but guess that was omitted to keep it slim.

Some may say get the LX3 but I find it a little too large with too limited a range, especially with the lens barrel sticking out. The S90 is more like an IXUS that can be slipped into my pockets.

I think the G11 is dumb.

If G11 is released before G10, it can also be considered an upgrade as well, to bigger screen, more MPs.

Now Canon swap it around.
G11 has better supposedly better ISO performance.

Why do they even waste time releasing the G11.

On the other hand, that S90 looks very good especially with that f2 lens.
Anyway, all PnS cameras are the same so it's really not worthwhile to go for the G11 in this case.

Actually, they released a few PnS along with the G11... now where's the EOS release.

The PowerShot series has never failed to confuse me... S90, S-Series, SX10, SX1IS, SD-Series, G yada yada

I think the EOS new release will be annouced on 1st Sep.

The Powershot S series cameras are very very good

and I thought one of the strength of SX1/SX10 series is their superzoom, but yet, SX20's still at 20X, when Nikon has 24X and Olympus has 26X already...kinda disappointed :(

though they do include the the ability to shoot 720p videos with an HDMI output, lesser noise...

and shouldn't they improve the SX20 outer appearance a bit? Same superzoom cameras, but Nikon P90 looks more sturdy. Or maybe turn it to more of a old school design like G11? Nice! :D

According to the Canon rumors, EOS will be release on 1 Sept...

I think the olympus e-420 kit selling around $680 beats the G11 hands down loh....also 10mp and small :dunno:

Somehow I feel the S90 is more attractive to me...

You gotta love canon and its upgrades. Just bought a used G10 mint for less than 200$usd. Go Canon!

Hi,
CCD sensor will produce better IQ than a CMOS sensor, but it require higher voltage and more supporting chips to operate. This is a problem in digital camera especially digital compact camera when every components are so close to each other pack in a small enclose space... heat built up quickly and causing noise in CCD sensor.

So by designing a tilt and swivel LCD, it's basically remove/reduce a major heat source from the back of the CCD sensor and with a lower MP, it's noise performance and IQ will improve greatly. Also, it's seem like it's also had the ability to do pixel binning which will able to produce good IQ picture in low light situation (at 2.5MP). A built-in 3 stop ND filter is also interesting... just wonder how it's work?? May be use a special filter that change from a clear filter to a 3-stop ND filter when a electric current is pass through it... like those electric glass??

Anyway, IMHO, G11 have the potential to be a high IQ compact camera.

Hmm... just wonder will the same approach apply to the next DSLR??

Just my S$0.02.

Have a nice day.

I don't think its so high tech. Its probably just a ND glass filter that slides over the sensor. Its been in G-series since the Canon Powershot G3 was launched... ;)

I still like the g10 better than the G11, design wise too, not a fan of swiveling screens

same here. don't really need the swiveling screens and don't find it any useful. =X

Ha ha ha dont kid yourself :bsmilie: .... then just leave the tilt and swivel alone face out and use it IF you need it

I have owned the G3 G5 and G7 series in the past..........and understand the 'frustration'. The 'trick' is to buy the new release ASAP and shooting the heck out of it for the next 9-12 months and getting rid of it with little/minimal depreciation before the next G is released ...... because I used to get that 'bang balls' feeling when I bought those cameras new 10-11 months into their product cycles and a new model gets rolled out a few months later

..... G models come and go like a sushi train

G1 - Sep 2000
G2 - Aug 2001
G3 - Sep 2002
G5 - Jun 2003
G6 - Aug 2004

2005 Take a Break

G7 - Sep 2006
G9 - Aug 2007
G10 - Sep 2008
G11 - Aug 2009

There might be a G12 in a year's time.... but maybe time for another 1 year break next year kekeke

More interested for news on any new EOS.... 60D or 7D

But the spec for G11 really is disappointing..... The SX20 seems to have better spec and have HD Video too. Sadly, the SX20 doesn't have OEM U/W casing..... :(

any idea when canon G11 will reach singapore??? in sept too???

On one hand, people are complaining canon just trying to squeeze more and more mega pixel at the expense of ISO, and now Canon do exactly the opposite and reduce Mega pixel to improve ISO, you get a whole bunch complaining that Canon is moving backward... What do you guys need ? Mega-pixel contest, or better picture ? Make up your mind. And all the pouring of sorrow before even seeing the sample picture. Sigh.... I would withold my judgement till I see some review or proper sample pictures.

But seriously, S90 looks interesting. If that has the image quality equal to G11, smaller size, f2 lens, cheaper....

While there is some truth that larger MP in a small sensor means increased noise (assuming current tech is stagnant); technology does move ahead very fast and some of these limitations have been overcome.

So while canon claims that the 10mp was chosen because of better image quality and higher ISO (up to 2 stop), there have been no samples at high ISO yet. I'll reserve my judgement on the MP decision until the high ISO samples appear. :)

Incidently, if you reduce a G10 15mp pixel image to the same size as a G11 10mp image in post processing, you'd also end up with a image with less apparent noise. ;)
