Hey Jazzmint, since you can contact the boss directly, can I bother you to help check their selling price for 5DMarkII and 35L?Thanks.

Will not call the boss right now. Maybe after May when I am free to go down. can try asking them on their FB pages. I have listed in this thread.

Actually I always thought buying camera/lens in SG is better, cos got better quality control. For MY, I am not sure..
Is that why cameras/lens are cheaper in MY?

For Camera and most lenses, they are manufactured in Japan. So they are the same regardless of whether you buy in Somalia, Iraq or Hawaii......

I don't know whether you are a iphone user, but iphones are assembled in China, and they are selling like hot cake.....

Please take a look at the Malaysia photography forums and browse through the many wonderful pictures taken by the photographers there. There is absolutely no difference.

You gotta be kidding, the QC has nothing to do with where its sold.

Even if Canon products are manufactured locally in each country, what makes you think SG ones will have better QC than MY ones? Are Singaporeans somehow better people than Malaysians? The start of the downfall of a people/nation is when they think too highly of themselves.

Agreed with gerardo12. It's not like lenses sold in Singapore are made locally. They all come from the same factory. The main reason why M'sia has it cheaper is they waived government taxes off camera(from what other users mentioned at the start of the thread)

The only trouble would be if you have to claim warranty, else it's okay to buy from M'sia. Or unless you really cannot trust buying a "premium" product from another country..

Absolutely spot on. I am 100% Singaporean but I support this statement thoroughly.

I have learnt alot from my Malaysian friends and people around them. We really need to improve on humility. I will say Malaysians practice that so much better than us Singaporean...........

We are not buying LV handbags here. These are precision engineered products that cannot be easily faked. The best clones I know of are Korean made fake Rolex watches. Hard to tell from the real thing, and works precisely just like the real thing.

You are comparing CDs with camera lenses. One cost a few cents to produce, the other is a few hundred/thousand dollars to manufacture.

CDs are easily faked, can be produced anywhere. I have yet to hear about fake lenses, and they all come from the same source factory no matter where they are sold.

It's all good. No worries. Now go out there and take some great pictures! :)

U may go to Low Yatt Plaza. Located at Bukit Bintang area. The place is just like our Sim Lim Square.
I think for quality wise is just the same for Asian region. In my humble opinion. 

I believe our custom officers are well trained, they have seen hundred of thousand people go thru custom everyday, knew all the tricks those jokers have tried. If you are trying pull some stunts to outsmart our custom officers, just need to prepare to face the consequences yourself, cause you are braking the laws.

enough said.

I think you meant breaking the laws and not braking the laws :)

DDE is DD Electronics, a Shop in Singapore selling gray (imported) sets with no warranty. Only comes with 1 yr shop warranty.
RRP is Recommended Retail Price. The price which the item is supposed to sell at, set by the local distributor.

I see I see. Thanks for explaining :)

Btw, is there any website i can check the age or the location of the lens manufacturing country from using the serial number of the lens?

There's a guide on The Digital Picture.
