Canon Malaysia reduced its RRP, prices for lens & bodies are dirt cheap now in MY!

Hi People,

i have read this thread and went into Msia today to check out the price. Have went to KSL and Tebrau City Jusco. Got the quote for the 17-55, 24-105, 24-70 and 10-22.
Below is the quote i get for those lens. It runs in the sequence as above and all are in RM.

Foto Ana 3400, 3850, 4800, 2300
Foto CLS 3420, 3930, 4850, 2349
Mee Too 3950, 4400, 5500, 2800
Camera Zone 3950, 4400, 5500, 2800

Hope this helps...
Btw, anyone noes the price for these lenses in SGP? Can someone send me the price so i can compare whether it is worth it to get from Msia or Sgp. Msia offer 1+1yr warranty and it's nearest service centre is roughly 20mins drive from Causeway. The best exchange rate that i can find while driving around today, 23 Mar is $237.50 in Taman Sentosa.

Regards

Pardon me, but it does seems like other than the 17-55 at Foto Ana and Foto CLS, all the other prices are chop carrot prices.

FYI, do not ever buy a 24-105 for more than RM$3400. I got a copy (UY code) slightly below that price as I am a regular, but RM $3400 should be the price if it is a white box set. That was before the price adjustment.

From your quotes above, I will stick to Plaza Angsana and not anywhere else. Even Mee Too outlet in P. Angsana is cheaper than that in Jusco, by quite a margin.

Lastly, try to do currency exchange in Singapore, as we will more likely have a better exchange rate. I recommend you guys to change money at CCK Lot 1 level 4. One of the better rates in SG and I always find it to be better than that in JB.

Going over sounds like a plan.. Btw, would it actually be better to buy from June's PC Show instead if we gotta wait till end of May?

One does not have to wait for any IT or PC Shows thats held quarterly to purchase any camera products as there won't be any difference. You wont be getting it at a bargain price, if you know what I mean...

Why buy from those IT/PC shows and exhibitions? They sell at RRP.

Cause they do sometime provide good freebies? The IT Show that ended a week ago gave DigiCab.. Not a bad deal IMO..

Mind to share which IT show gives freebies when we purchase lens?

Erm, of course I meant body+kit kinda deal.. Lens wise of course no need to wait.. M'sia would be great anytime.

You get the same freebies (less the special extra freebie dry cab) when you buy local sets from outside. And the price difference between the RRP and street price is probably more than the dry cab.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. Thought I missed out on something :bsmilie:

Nono is I n00b haha.. Thanks for the advices!

So those of you going into JB as a group to buy gear, are you prepared to declare what you bought to Singapore custom and pay the 7% GST?

Hmmm no. Do we have to? Oh my. If we are taking a car transport. They wouldn't check.

Good question. It'll be damn obvious with a whole group coming back to Singapore with boxes of camera bodies/lenses. No way one can run away from them unless everyone dispose off the boxes there and only brings back the lens/bodies.

OK, Let me do a review on this:-

I think the price is abit dearer in JB as quoted in the post above by blackwire.
For 17-55mm, my best quote from a seller in KL is only RM3,280 (Malaysia set) which is approx $1,378 (using RM2.38 = S$1.00). DDE old price is selling at $1,310... Now, DDE is selling at $1,399
For other lenses, it is also more cheaper if you purchase it in KL.

However, the below is just my own personal opinion.
If DDE revert back to their old prices, the SGD equivalent for prices is actually much similar to KL.
The only difference is of course the warranty (DDE warranty vs Canon Malaysia warranty. However having said that, you might also wanna weight on the trouble to claim your warranty via DDE vs traveling to Canon Malaysia for warranty)

SUMMARY:
DDE old price vs current JB price (DDE wins)
DDE current price vs current JB price (JB wins)
DDE old price vs current KL price (almost similar, maybe difference is only about $50-80 bucks; then you need to think about the warranty as what I mentioned above whether which is much more worthwhile for you guys)
DDE current price vs current KL price (KL wins... DDE lose hands-down!)
Current JB price vs current KL price (KL wins)

My KL price review is based on my 1st post at the 1st page... (please click on the lowyat forum page for latest KL price comparison - I have knew some forum friends which deal with them before and they received positive feedbacks)
Please correct me if you are able to find better price in other shops in JB.
BTW, I am a Malaysian from KL and might pay them a visit if I got myself a chance back there perhaps in 1-2 weeks later.

Hope this helps especially my dear forum Singaporeans friends. :)
and happy buying !

Hi guys, pls watch your words.

DDE warranty vs Canon Malaysia warranty: Canon provide 2 years local warranty on the lenses.
I would definitely pick Canon Malaysia warranty anytime if their service quality is similar to SG Canon.
I have serious doubt on the shop's warranty for grey products.

Sorry, i am still a noob. Can someone explain to me what is DDB and what about their warranty issue? And what is RRP?

Thanks in advance.

DDE is DD Electronics, a Shop in Singapore selling gray (imported) sets with no warranty. Only comes with 1 yr shop warranty.
RRP is Recommended Retail Price. The price which the item is supposed to sell at, set by the local distributor.
