Canon G12

Friend got the G12 for $753 at SLR Revolution today. Great price. Nikon P7000 is lighter in weight, longer in zoom but has a smaller aperture rating at f5.6 (tele zoom) and does not have the rotation LCD.

i tink the rotation screen is the only thing that P7000 unable to match up.. was hoping to see the photo quality of P7000 so that can compare with G12..

Here's the comparison at Imaging Resource taken at iso 3200
G12 shows more detail. It is also obvious that G12 applies more of NR

I bought mine from Alan Photo@Funan at $758 with 2x8Gb card

Hi everyone! I just bought Canon G12 for $747(free 2 8G SD card) from one of a Camera store in Singapore. So far, is this the cheapest price? Anyone can get it cheaper than this?

Really? I bought my G12 from Parislilk(Katong Village) This is the first time I bought my camera stuff there. Their service is good but not all items are cheapest there, you have to check & compare price. Right now, I'm looking for a nice case & wrist straps for my G12.

Hi i was wondering if you shoot with the viewfinder or live view usually with the G series cameras?

I find it very difficult to shoot with the viewfinder as it is very small. But then again, I have the G9 and things may have changed with the G12. But I must say that the LCD (live view) is excellent.

Approximate number of shots that can be taken:

shoot in viewfinder=1000 shots
shoot in liveview=370 shots

straight off the camera shots taken with the G12 is definitely better than the P7000 in terms of noise control. The G12 is heavier and vari-angle lcd screen is a plus point. Focus is comparable between the two. I tried casually at shooting the corners of objects in the respective showrooms. The Nikon P7000 AF is a little more precise. the G12 AF was faster but in certain shots it actually wasn't in correct focus when examined in playback. Anyway between the two i would still choose G12. Image quality is arguably better and LCD display quality also appears good.

Does G12 produce better shots than s95? I duno if its settings or other reasons, the samples I saw online are more to the G12 side. However, most of the reviews say they are both same in quality.

Found a nice compact Kata case($25) for my G12.

Next, will be looking for a nice wrist strap for my G12.

Was quoted S$750 @ Alan Photo but didn't enquire about the freebies ...

Hi anyone care to share the IQ and noise level of G12 at iso1600? Saw from web reviews that it was quite good, but, think its better to get feedbacks from non-commericial users like u.
If it really can perform well at iso1600 in low light condition will be good enough. Found out that LX5 IQ at iso800 is still noisy and only slightly better than previous LX3. Thanks

Thinking of selling G11 cause of G12, just wanted the HD! but wanted to to know, what does the additional dial does? lucky that my underwater case can fit G12, but doesnt support for the dial!

yeah i've been eyeing for a handy dandy backup cam myself and the G series looks pretty viable. anws, i think the G12's dial add-on is a good addition. and the rotating lcd definitely is a plus point against it's rival. price is pretty constant against the others too.
