Canon G12

A G12 in HK is the same price as a G11 in SG...

Thanks to your write up CS TAN, i found my way to stanley road, bought many items at good prices too.

G11 was going for HK$3300, for another 300, it makes sense to get the G12...

Collected mine today @ Canon CSC and collected the promotional gifts in the same building ... the SD card's useful but the G12 pouch is ... well I need a new pouch ...

Erm, any recommendation for a pouch? I just need it to look cool, compact and allows me to carry a spare battery and an extra SD card ...

Hi, I've been following this thread and I really like the g12.
But I was wondering is the g12 really bulky/heavy to be carried out? Like would you guys complain of its weight? Because panasonic lx5 is so compact compared to g12 and now I'm super confused. And lx5 seems to have a better lens and is the wider aperture really significant? (f/2.0 vs f/2.8)

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi, I was also considering the lx and g12 bf getting the canon cos the Video taken by g12 which i see to be much better. Canon pns video quality seems to be much better than most other brands one.
One thing also sold me on g12 is the buttons and controls, I like to use the Manual mode as u can easily use the new scroll button in front of cam to control the shutter speed, and scroll wheel near the lcd screen to control aperture. Also the rest of the button for iso, ev, AF mode, metering are also conveniently available. Also, the pict taken with Manual mode is very nice. HOwever, if u are just using it for pns or auto mode, then I think the s95 is a better options.
Regarding the size, i personally dont find it big and carry it with me everywhere i go. Dont forget the lx model also had a bit of len protruding out when fully retracted. So most important is to handheld them and try it out in some stores bf purchasing.

hmm.. check out Nov's issue of HWM, its a shootout between the top 4 current models.

G12, lumix LX5, Nikon P7000, Samsung EX1

In a nutshell
G12 won the shootout with BEST PERFORMANCE,
LX5 is rated BEST VALUE.

quote from magazine " If performance is number one in your book, the G12 is it"

some interesting comparison,

G12 is the heaviest of the 4,
G12 the most expensive of the 4,
G12 iso speeds are the lowest range of the 4 (3600 max)
G12 has the smallest screen of the 4 (@ 2.8")

the sad part is..., my right hand gets cramped after some use.. (TOO SMALL)

Strange that the shootout wasn't with Canon S95 - I would have thought that the Lumix LX-5, Canon S95, Samsung EX1 are in the same cat while the Nikon P7000 and the Canon G12 are in a slightly different cat.

Okay thank you all! I think I should really follow my gut and get the best performance g12! I went to the stores to try out both cameras and I like the bulkiness of the g12, haha I think I am just biased. I like it more than lx5, I don't wish to have to remove the lens cap everytime I want to use it.
I just hope I won't regret my decision! :)

Don't forget about the articulated LCD screen! It gives us more convenience when we try to take those 'hard to reach angles' ...

Canon's G series are very fine cameras and are capable of producing some of the best photos in its class. You will not regret having the G12.
