Canon G10

what AF frame should i be using though..

Creating attractive bokeh has always been difficult on cameras with small sensors.
For G10,
You need to move closer to the subject, and try to choose a background that is far away from the subject, and use a longer focal length whenever possible.
To go to the extremes, you can use macro mode.

Aperture....

Need some help here pls...totally newbie. I wanted to have some effect on my photo in a way that the focus point is sharp and the background is blur. I did some reading up and i tried seting the it to F2.8 and shot. But it end up no different here.....am i doing something wrong here ?

Will getting the tele-converter 1.4x TC-DC850 (requires Lens adaptor LA-DC58K) helps me in getting a better Bolek effect ?

And i was wondering why that dpreview state that the lens is 28mm - 140mm, but on my physical camera it stated 6.1-30.5mm ?

Pardone me if i'm asking some stupid question.....but i'm new =P

No. Its bokeh.
If you are looking for a better background blur, the G10 might not be able to meet your needs. Look into a DSLR body and prime lenses with a shallow aperture.

6.1-30.5mm is the lens. 28-140mm is after calculation of the crop factor of the G10 sensor.
Try reading the manual. It will improve your understanding of your camera.

Any idea how much does the G10 battery cost?

ok, thanks....the OEM seems much much cheaper.

necessary to buy extra battery?
by the way where is cathay?

Once the low-bat sign starts flashing, it wouldn't be long before the cam goes dead. So to be safe I always carry a fully-charged second battery.

Juz curious...

Has anyone ever compared the LX-3 against the G10 but in the end, chose the G10 instead? Cud u pls share your reasons for choosing the Canon instead?

Thanks.

I compared the LX-3 & G10, but choose the G10 for the following reasons

1) I have a 40D , ST-E2 and 2x580ex2. Flashes can be used with full ETTL on the G10
2) exposure compensation dial
3) From reviews, at low ISOs, g10 is better. If i need to shoot stuff at ISO >400, I will be bringing my DSLR
4) Longer Reach of lens

I went to buy a LX-3 but got the G-10 instead.

1. The LX-3 does not grip well for me
2. Focal range is too short
3. The lens cap is a pain, G-10 is faster to deploy
4. f2.0 is good but not necessary
5. lens jut out
6. G10 more rugged
7. G10 has nice dials for compensation and ISO

Has anyone bought the Crumpler casing for G10? Issit good?

I'm looking at the Lowepro APEX 60 which comes with a waterproof bag ... looks good but boring dosign.

Cathay selling G10 for 815 SGD. I see B&H in New York selling for 412USD, which translates to 618 SGD, basically 25% cheaper. Does anyone know of better pricing in Singapore for this camera?

This is the reply from Canon:

Greeting from Canon Singapore.

According to product specification of PowerShot G10, it support SD(maximum
2GB) and SHDC memory card(4GB, 8GB, 16GB & 32GB in current IT market).
In fact, SDHC Class 2 is already sufficient for PowerShot G10 camera usage.
Class 4 & 6 more delicated for digital flash memory camcorder.
Class 4 & 6 can be use with PowerShot G10, just it will not fully utilized
the speed of the memory card.

Hope the information help for you.

Thank you for purchasing our Canon product & may you have a pleasant day.

Hi All,

I am terribly confused by all the SD card ratings. So that means I do not need to get SD(150X) or SD (133X) .. just normal SDHC Class 4 or Class 6 will do ?

I was under the impression that if i got a faster speed card, i will be able to shoot multiple shots faster (assuming that they get stored in the card at a faster speed?)

Hi do you direct me to the source where it compares the lx2 and g10 ? g10 surely suits canon DSLR users but the f2 lens is really very enticing.
