ok thanks a lot. but y not the EF18-55? u mean i cant mount the 300D lens on my eos66?

do u mind naming me the specific films like the brand or the whole name of those i can use for my 66?

btw, any advice for me if i'm planning to upgrade to 10D from eos66? i've been using my 66 for 2 years and thought i might wanna upgrade..

in short, you can mount the 300D kit lens but cannot shoot because the lens rear element protrudes out further than the normal ef mount, thus your mirror will get struck if you attempt to shoot with it. Unless you cut up your lens but that is another story althogether.

i already stated you can use any 35mm film! almost all and i cannot state all the films in the world for your use! Just do not use IR, infared red films. you have ever use your eos 66 before, what films do you use?

great if you upgrade! 10D has more functions and its a digital camera, you need to know the digital workflow to truly enjoy your camera.if $$$ is not a problem, then there is no problem at all.

you you want to know what types of films ppl normal use, there is a seperate thread somewhere you can dig up.

i'm use b/w films for SLRs as i do my other shooting with the DSLR

i use those cheapo and ordinary films like fujifilm superia 200, 400, kodak200, used before tmax 100, 400 for b/w. i would want to explore more films but dunno how to start..

ya, money is kinda prob but dun mind investing tho.. 10D is a DSLR right?

if you do not shoot often, continue to enjoy your film SLR. Film still give certain pleasure that digital cannot provide. :) Ask the film-lovers. Only problem is that high running cost. :bsmilie:

i`m a film lover..... of course.. comparing to DSLR... i still trust my FM2 and my Leica! the color is Superb!... but digi give u the "instantantous " result... u no need to wait for a week for the labs to process the film for u.... thats the diff.

Canon Lens Aging - How Old Is That Lens?
Beside the rear lens element of many Canon lenses is a date code in the form of "US0206". This code is also present on many other Canon products including camera bodies.

The first letter, "U", indicates that the lens was made in Canon's Utsunomiya, Japan factory. Prior to 1986, this letter is moved to the last position of the date code.

U = Utsunomiya, Japan
F = Fukushima, Japan
O = Oita, Japan

The first letter, "S", is a year code that indicates the year of manufacture. Canon increments this letter each year starting with A in 1986 and prior to that, A in 1960 without the leading factory code. Here is a table to make things simple:

A = 1986, 1960
B = 1987, 1961
C = 1988, 1962
D = 1989, 1963
E = 1990, 1964
F = 1991, 1965
G = 1992, 1966
H = 1993, 1967
I = 1994, 1968
J = 1995, 1969
K = 1996, 1970
L = 1997, 1972
M = 1998, 1973
N = 1999, 1974
O = 2000, 1975
P = 2001, 1976
Q = 2002, 1977
R = 2003, 1978
S = 2004, 1979
T = 2005, 1980
U = 2006, 1981
V = 2007, 1982
W = 2008, 1983
X = 2009, 1984
Y = 2010, 1985
Z = 2011, 1986

* assumption of continuation being made for future years.

The next two numbers, "02", is the month number the lens was manufactured in. Month 02 is February, month 11 = November. The leading zero of the month code is sometimes omitted.

The next two numbers, "06", are meaningless in determining how old a Canon lens is. This is a Canon internal code (that is occasionally omitted).

You now know the manufacture date for your lens - But - You cannot know how long the lens was in inventory, shipping transit and on a shelf until it was originally purchased (without having the original receipt or a reputable person accurately informing you).

It's quite possible that many may not know what EOS and EF stands for.

EOS = Electro Optical System
EF = Electro Focus (if I recall correctly)

These abbreviations can be found on some of the old product brochures dating back to the very 1st generation of EOS cameras when they were launched in 1987.

I believe you would see it in the EOS630 and EOS1 brochures.

Get the tamron one. I'm using the non-Di version and it's superb!

how about the lens without the USM mean? what is the L lens does?

Lens without the USM means that it does not have the UltraSonic Motor expect thier focusing to be slightly noisier and slower compared to a USM equupped lens.

L is canon's designation for thier 'professional' series of lenses. These normally cost much more that thier non-L counterparts but contain higher quality glass and deliver better colours and contrast.

newbie to SLR .. EOS 30 is better or 50 ? any advice from veterens ?
