Eh, the mainstream of sign-up is beyond SG Leader's control because I believe the main blog account belongs to Scott himself. The leader is just following what should be done but I guess the registration process is a bit messy.

Join and Register. Different usage of words but if you and your friends received the email that timestamped 12.01am onwards means you are registered into the database already.
