or anyone can help me: I'm thinking of selling my powershot S5 IS, everything is perfect except occassionally when i zoom very fast, it will say "Lens Error :Restart camera: Its very stupid cause sometimes you miss important shots or during video mode.

Usually if send to CSC for fix, expensive or not?

My 450D, there's the 'F' on the top right corner of the screen.
Is that the aperture?

It's because of your lens.

If your lens can only go to f/4 then that's the largest aperture it can go.

Buy new lens? What aperture you want? Lol..

The different modes of shooting.

M is you select your exposure and aperture manually. (In this mode, you can go into BULB mode meaning you can open your shutter for as long as you want)

Av is you select your aperture and the camera will calculate the exposure time.

Tv is you select your exposure time and the camera will calculate the aperture.

P is you select the EV and the camera will choose the correct aperture and exposure for you. This is the best mode to start shooting with.

A-DEP is Auto Depth of Field. Google on this yourself as I never shoot in this mode before.

Having said that, you control the ISO settings in all modes.

hmm. suggest you take your the manual and give it some reading? alot of helpful explainations on your camera.

and, when did you bought your camera? was it first hand? if it is, can register for the canon free talk. it helps, alot!

I bought this camera because my last holiday trip to Europe, those photo with my mini digital camera didn’t turn out well.... especially in the churches where lighting are at minimum.... so I thought I should buy a digital SLR and learn more from there.
And i love beautiful pictures, and admire those who can produce nice pictures.... and i wanna capture nice pictures when i travel.
My bf supposes to explore with this new cam, but he's too busy with work....
whahaha.... all kinds of excuses and reasons to buying a camera!

Anyway we are heading to Sydney 2 months later, wanna master some basic skills...
we travelling for 2 weeks, drive around NSW region.... so besides the harbour, i wanna capture something nicer!

and last but not least.... i started scrapbooking.... wanna have all the nice pictures in my journal

Good motivation, travelling and photography can do no wrong.
Anyways, I would recommend as mentioned by xhui, to read the manual, thats the basics.

Then you can skim here, they have excellent guides which is the most comprehensive on the Web for beginners.

Thirdly, experiment and explore independently. Go out, hang that camera on your neck and shoot shoot shoot, play around with the different modes. I say stick with the kit lens first. It is quite impressive if you can handle it well.

Go to flickr.com , look at the photos here and be inspired. Learn to emulate and involve yourself with online discussions. Google information.

You got a long way to go. Read up the manual and do a little goggling about ISO, Aperture & Exposure. It's essential to understand them.
