no prob!!

btw, nice meeting u all.
need to get myself charging... ZZzzZZZzzzZZ

almost forgot...
as promise to Rubedo, this is how to test a lens for front/back focusing issue.

1. align 3 batts as below in the photo
2. focus the #2 batt (middle) at wide open, at minimum focusing distance
3. shoot. then pixel peep to your satisfaction.
4. if front batt in focus, then u hv front focusing issue. vice versa for the last batt.

Thanks! This helps alot

hey ramian, missed u today at the chit chat session. :)

Was at SLS with a pretty long list of things to get (not only for myself). Kinda forgot that my dad was flying off tonight to Korea so had to rush back home to send him off. Will most likely be going back tomorrow afternoon.

Hmmm... have read about the "battery focus test", but wouldn't a focus test chart be more accurate? Or is such a fine level of AF mis-focusing in-significant for most usage?

My 3 Canon lenses auto-focus spot on, but the sigma back-focuses by 2mm. I'm still not all that used to such a thin DoF, so I don't know if it makes a difference in practice.

Anyone?

AF Mis-firing is quite a hindrance IMO. Especially for macro or sports. A slight difference can have a different impact on the photo.

I need a camera backpack for my trip to Kuching in August. Really liked the one I had borrowed from my friend for the Ubin trip, but there's still some time till then, so no rush.

I understand that, but does AF mis-focusing by a couple of mm especially with thin DoF at f/1.4 matter when taking proper photographs?

That backpack is equivalent to Lowepro Flipside/Fastpack IIRC.

I believe in terms of macro as it's so tight, it does matters. Although to me, I am not a macro shooter but I would want my equipment to be in top condition especially any brand new lenses.

Just bought a new tripod, Benro A300.
It costs me 140 dollars. Quite steady and nice build quality also.

battery focus test is the fastest and easiest way to see if a lens is having f/b focus. one do not need to setup tripod, lay test sheet flat on table, cam setup at an angle as accurately using a level spirit. doing all these when buying a lens worth few hundred or thousand dollars may seems over-paranoid. worst still if buying a 2H lens. then pixel peep via laptop. gosh.

if the batt test is done properly, one surely can tell how bad is the issue, if any. then u can make a call to go ahead or abandon the deal. if u have no choice (say u found a lens at an attractive price), u can always get lens calibrated, be it at CSC (for canon lenses) or David (from P&G - for 3rd party lenses).

whether the f/b focus is significant, i would say it is in my line of work. a 2mm f/b focus is not good if one can observe it. this will be even worst if shooting at the minimum focusing distance, where the error is magnified (f/b focus is visually more pronounce). imagine if using a lens with front focus, u focus at her eye, but the other eyes below are in focus (if u know what i referring to.. ;p , xhui excuse me hor ...), how would u be able to deliver the final photos?

Piangz... Today I kena poison by Raynox 250 DCR after joining tagorean and ex0rcist in the CCK macro outing! :(

It's a perfect match for any lens, especially when you have a macro lens to let it stack on. The picture closes up by another +8 diopter but the downside is the thin DOF. ;)

Now will go have to hunt for 2nd hand liao...

Any guides on getting a mac? Could use some guidence. Haha, Though i've read up on switching from PC to Mac, but still any advise? Going to BBB soon. Haha.:bsmilie::sweatsm:

Hahaha. I'm still waiting though. Haha, because i'll should be working at the June PC show. So if i can get a good price, i don't mind buying there, since i'm working there. Otherwise, i'll buy at epicenter. :) Does epicenter do education pricing? Thanks alot! Happy boy though, not yet a man. Haha. My next option is buying online, since apple gives me up to $200 off a 24" mac with education pricing.
