You can't compare the 1D Mk II with a prosumer level DSLR...

The 1D Mk II was built for professionals in mind. Imagine if the batch turned out to have problems, that would be really bad for the current working professionals. All of them have back focusing problems and stuff like that... imagine what would happen to Canon and its products associated with Canon.

Canon can't afford to make a mistake like that.

Can't say I agree with that logic. The 20D will be volume seller and will likely outsell the Mk2 by greater than 10 to 1. Regardless, you will still be forking out in excess of 2K for the body and the protests will be just as loud (and amplified by greater number of users) if there are significant QC issues with the 20D as compared to the Mk2. Canon's reputation will be equally sullied if not more so.

interesting new product. but is it a NEED or a WANT?

For me, I don't need one and I don't want one, I just like to compare products and understand the technology behind.....that's my full time job anyway...well, not really related to photography but I just like to see how technology evolved :D

Oooh... excellent self-deception. You're good.

just kidding :bsmilie:

The 20D is all and good, but in all your excitement have you all noticed the pricing on the two new EFS lenses - according to dpreview

http://www.dpreview.com/articles/canoneos20d/default.asp

EFS 17-85 US$600
EFS 10-22 US$800

I would not pay for such prices for EFS lenses. I'd rather get the Sigma alternatives such as the 18-125 and the 12-24. The Sigma 18-125 is much cheaper at $500+ and is usable on all EOS. Optically I do not expect the EFS to be significantly better than the Sigmas to justify these prices

I only want to know the price for the new flash, hope that it is around 550ex region :D

Care to share what are the improvements there are from the 550ex? thanks :D

the 580EX recharges 25% faster than 550EX.

the CP-E3 recharges 25% faster than CP-E2

So the recharge time of 580EX+CP-E3 vs 550EX+CP-E2 should be much quicker.

Coupled with 5fps on 20D and 20+ shot buffer, expect to see more people burning out their flash tubes and complaining about how come Canon quality so lousy. ;)

longer battery life too, luckily only 5fps, if on MKII, it is more likely to burn out the flash tube if the photog dunno how to use it properly

Looks good for ppl who doesnt have a system yet.

now i feel lugi.... coz just brought a grey 550 from TCW.... should have wait.... hai..... after reading the specs for 580Ex... reali good compared to 550ex.... maybe just use my 550ex until got money then buy a 580 as main.. and keep 550 as backup....~

any1 pre-order liao? ;p

does 580EX work with CP-E2? hopefully it does and I don't need to change both the flash and battery pack....

but u dun benefit as much if u get 580ex without 20D/MKII

for other EOS body, 580EX only gives you longer battery life, smaller, lighter, faster recharge and slightly higher GN

for battery life, and faster recharge, my CP-E2 already can take care of it.

lighter, smaller and better control....dun really need it, but if the price is same as 550ex, i dun mind to get one as backup :D

Any hack for the 20D to increase the 6 RAW shots in the buffer limitation? ;p

I would doubt it very much, unless you want to take apart your new 20D and solder new memory chips on. This "might" void your warranty ;)

interesting news ... will luv to have it in my camera bag when it comes out. 300D will become my backup then :) thanks for a great news!!!
