Actually i did a google search on this issue and only came across lensrental.com's article. Other than that there haven't been talk about this. Perhaps we need to take into consideration the price point and the fact that the lens gets shipped around many times.
Yes cause for concern but don't lose sleep over it. Just use normally. How many of us ship our lenses multiple times or abuse them in a normal shooting scenario. Not me.
If I owned this lens I would still be concerned. Here's my reasoning... The issue presented itself early to the Lens Rental people because of the abuse their equipment takes under the stress of shipping. The issue is not how stressful the equipment was handled but how delicately the second lens element was fixed to the lens barrel. Tamron only put three glue points. There were no metal clips or clamps used... just glue. Lens Rentals has suggested that it is not uncommon to have a lens element glued to the barrel however, this the largest lens element they've seen glued in this way. This suggests that all lens elements of this size are fixed by clip, clamp or ring. Tamron's new 24-70 lens, is the exception.
Here is the original article from Lens Rentals - Tamron 24-70 Lens Issue
Given enough time, the issue may manifest with many more individuals. The only other variable is how 'roughly' is the equipment handled. What's even more scarier is the lack of communication from Tamron. Lens Rentals have complained to them and Tamron has sent the affected lens to Japan for 'further study'. So far, there is no indication of time lines, acknowledgement of the issue, or any communication to owners regarding 'what to do if this happens to you'.
The saving grace however is the local warranty... oh wait... is it 5 years or 3 years? Another poster has carefully read the warranty information from Tamron. Here is what he found:
The Tamron lens comes with an automatic 3 years warranty and to qualify for the additional 2 years warranty, please bring the lens to GSH service center for re-registration within 1 month after the end of the 3 years warranty period
Owners are expected to remember to bring their Tamron lenses 30 days after their 3 year warranty has expired. I wonder what the success rate has been in the past? Have registered owners ever received an e-mail from Tamron to remind them of this obligation? Very tricky.
