I think it is mixture. Some lenses still have the code, some dont. My 2 recent lenses - 1 coded UA , the other no code.

Its limited stock for a reason...there isn't that many "suckers" around who will pay RRP for the lens...
or limited stock so those who wants it...will have to pay premium price. and definitely there will be people out there willing to pay for it.

combination of both. limit supply according to the demand to sell high. and at the same time, Canon has been releasing alot of new things and the production line is strained.
