I didn't have any chance of trying 3rd party grip. BG-E11 is ergonomically very good as I tried and finishing and user friendliness are excellent. But I should admit that it is heavy. You should compare them at this point of view as well.
avsquare said:to me it's not going to be about the weight. if weight bothers, don't use a BG at all.
It was based on my exp with 5D2 and BG-E6, both original and 3rd party. In terms of weight balancing, and security, 3rd party will never win for me. I was so in fear for 3rd party, because the weight totally topple over. The screw doesn't seem secure as it gets loosened here and then, probably because of the weight.
Why save a about 200 bucks and risk something happens to your 4k camera and a possibly L lens?
I fully agree with bro avsquare's comments. I did considered all these factors and ended up with BG-E11. Never thought of trying 3rd party due to the excellent build quality, reliability and durability of Canon products.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I agree the difference between original n third party for BG-E6 is very noticeable. But what reviews I've seen so far is that the third party BG-E11 is much better quality and the difference is not significant.
pavsquare said:And the BG-E11 is really 1 or even 2 notches over the BG-E6 design. Ergonomics has improved tremendously, it's being designed to be the same as 1-Series body. If you use Markin's tripod plates, those designed with curves to fit 1-Series bodies, it can be used on BG-E11 because BG-E11 is designed to 1-Series body.
Furthermore, the material used, IIRC is magnesium alloy, similar to what's used for your 5D3 body. When I used BG-E6 with a heavy telephoto, I can still some toppling in weight balance/center of gravity, but with BG-E11, it feels entirely different. Balancing is improved.
All I can say is, BG-E11 is like using a 1-Series body. Alot of people say, once you touched a 1-Series body, you'd never look back. I can only say, once you have used a BG-E11 and fully appreciates it and the improvement from BG-E6, I don't really see a reason why you want a 3rd party one, unless you are totally broke after buying your 5D3. Which I won't anyways, I would still save up for the BG-E11.
My 2 cents.![]()
avsquare said:perhaps we should find someone with a mark3 and 3rd party BG to form a gathering and feel for ourselves ;p
Please share your findings an feedback if such gathering happens by any chance. I am interested bro.
avsquare said:actually the sellers or auth distributor or dealer should do a roadshow. :bsmilie:
With all the discussion going on...where would be the best place to get the best priced BG-E11 and guaranteed available stock?
