Canon 7D Mk II - Specifications (90%)

I hope Canon is aware that many folks are pinning their expectations on the 7D2, not the camera itself, but the sensor tech employed.

However, the implementation of 20.2 MP sensor looks too familiar to the one in 70D, so I guess it will be another major letdown. Canon is just spiralling into the abyss. Sigh

The only thing that is stopping me from considering Nikon is Nikon's UWA lens lineup...

My hopes aren't pinned up too high for the 7d2 sensor...

Indeed. Both the Canon EF-S 10-18 STM and EF-S 10-22 USM are far superior to the Nikon DX 10-24 and DX 12-24.

So much for Nikon's wide angle lenses... their only trump card is the FX 14-24 and I am sure that advantage will be soon lost.

Even if it is using the same sensor as the 70D I won't be very surprised. We can't just judge base on the sensor alone. The 65 AF is already quite impressive. I expect the sensor to be equivalent or slightly better than 70D if more will be bonus. If everybody is expecting everything to be very good on the 7D2,how much are they willing to pay?

The third party alternatives are pretty good though. No stabilised UWA like the 10-18 IS STM, but there are decent non-stabilised UWAs from third party manufacturers.

The filter system for the AF-S 14-24 is humongous and the AF-S 16-35 f4's distortion control is horrid.

Canon's 16-35 f4L is better than Nikon's AF-S 16-35 f4 in terms of corner to corner sharpness and distortion control. Let's not forget Canon's version is cheaper at 1.4 grand too.

Once Nikon fix their UWA lens lineup, I can see many Canon shooters jumping to Nikon.

Yes. I have the 10-18mm... and loved it to bits. Small, light and with excellent result. Easily my favourite lens nowadays... and thinking if selling my old Tokina 12-24mm soon.

the algorithm converting the analog to digital signal plays a very important role. with dual digic 6 processor, hopefully with much faster processing power will allow more complex algorithm to be deploy for efficient conversion thus allowing better noise control

Spoil market for the 10-22, how to jump to FF(if)~ :(

If happy with crop, no need to jump FF. I remember one CS-er here mentioned that one reason he didn't make the jump to FF is because he really likes Canon 10-22. I think he said almost distortion free or something.

Hit some brickwalls with the 18MP sensor, I'm hoping the 7d2 will be a big improvement from the 18MP sensor. If the 7d2 proves to be disappointing, FF might be the only way to go if I want improvements.

And yes, the 10-22's distortion control is excellent! :D

Yeah if i am not wrong, canon has been utilizing that 18mp sensor since 550D (or 500?)..

The AF points spread is a win!

We'll see about the sensor. ;)

Headphone jack spotted for those who are into video too.

Intervalometer and bulb timer confirmed for landscape shooters. :)

USD1799,this is going to be a hot seller.

This is what Canon says about the new 7D Mk II sensor in their official announcement:

"20.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor and ISO 100–16000
The EOS 7D Mark II has a newly designed 20.2 Megapixel sensor that delivers high-resolution image files with stunning detail and impressive clarity. Optimized for low-light shooting, the EOS 7D Mark II’s sensor captures images at up to ISO 16000 (expandable to H1: 25600, H2: 51200) with remarkably low noise, thanks to its improved, higher sensitivity design. Phenomenal for stills, the EOS 7D Mark II’s sensor is equally up to the task for movies, delivering Full HD capture even at rates of up to 60p."

I guess we'll have to wait for reviews before we can really assess the functional scope of the new sensor.
