Yes, false expectations doesn't help them but Canon have to meet real customer expectations.

Agree...

but how do you define real customer expectations? Everyone wanted something new and good yesterday... truth is... there might be some issues that prevent the introduction of a product into the market. And like I said before, I would rather that Canon took their time to get this product right and great, rather than coming out with something half baked.

Imagine if Canon (just because of wanting to capture market) came out with a 7DmkII using the same sensor with very minimal upgrade from the sensor used in 7D and everything else is the same, just added a knob that turn 360 degree and called it 7DmkII. Of course, being Canon, that product will still sell (and sell well)... but people like me will be thoroughly disappointed.

More than often, all these 'real customer expectations' are fueled by rumours. So what can they do? Do they keep delaying the product to meet expectations or do they release what has already been made?

I work in an industry where this is rampant. People 'in the know' tell others things that they think without stating that they are 'what-they-think' or 'wild-ass guesses' and not based 'facts'. it spreads enough that people come to accept it as fact since so many people are repeating it. When the truth comes out, expectations are not met due to bad facts.

Yes, we want something great rather than something half baked. Hopefully Canon will continue to delight us rather than thoroughly disappoint us.

No doubt they have to meet real customer expectations but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. In this case it's in the sales figures. We as consumers, any one of us, are just a drop in an ocean. Canon will make products for a large group of consumers. Whether we fall into that pool or not, that's irrelevant to Canon. If sales figures are disappointing, that is Canon's business. They will tweak it to improve the numbers. That's how they have been in business for several decades. Longer than any of us have been alive.

Agree and thanks. I am reminded of Minolta, which started in 1928, even longer than Canon.

My sentiments exactly.

I hope that the Canon 7D Mk II makes an equal impression in the marketplace as the Mark I did. That will take some doing. The earlier 'rumoured' specs are a step in the right direction. However, the 'icing on the cake' will be the introduction of a new and greatly improved sensor.

Either way, Canon will sell a number of Mark II's, but to be as revolutionary as their Mark I launch, they will need to make vast improvements to the rumoured 24.1mp APS-C sensor.

Here's the latest news from CR:

Lots of talk
There is lots of talk about the successor to the Canon EOS 7D. For the last 6 months we have written that the EOS 70D would move up rung in features in the EOS lineup, as such the EOS 7D Mark II will be doing the same thing.
We’re told two possible sensors are in play for the EOS 7D Mark II, the 20.2mp sensor in the 70D and a 24.1mp sensor that has yet to see the light of day. If they want separation with the EOS 7D Mark II and to charge a premium for it, I think moving beyond the sensor that will appear in the next Rebel, an EOS M camera and the EOS 70D is a good idea.
When is it coming?
It will not be shipping before the end of 2013, there is a possibility of an announcement before the year is out, but I’d say that is unlikely at this time. Timing could also depend on what Nikon is going to be doing with the D400. We’ve been told for ages that the EOS 7D Mark II will be an early 2014 camera.
We’re also told that 2 new “pro” bodies will arrive in 2014, and that doesn’t include the EOS 7D Mark II, which will be a pro specced APS-C camera.

Hmm... I am interested in this... maybe the legendary EOS 3D and a high MP (30+ MP) 5D type of body or APS-H sensor body. Looks like 2014 would be an interesting year for Canon users.

possible for them to turn 7d2 into a pro body?

That would just make the 7d mk2not affordable like the old 7d..would even cost more than a 6d

6-7k will be alright? it will be great for wildlife and sport, I think.

The 7D Classic was introduced at $2700. I bought one at that price during the first week after launch from John 3:16.

I hope that Canon will keep the 7D Mk II below $3000.

I mean turn to pro body at this price for crop

No matter how much features you clamp into this camera... it is still a crop sensor camera (whether was it APS-C or APS-H). And crop sensor camera demanding a price of 6-7k don't have a market out there. I mean, Sony SLT camera like the A77 also had good weather proof body, a great sensor, very very fast fps, good AF etc and definitely not going at that type of price. So I don't see how Canon gonna pull this one off.

But the 1D4 cost more than the price when launched.

Simply put 7 series is meant to be the affordable cheap version of the 1 series..if it exceeds the price of a new 5d out even a basic 6d it's well not going to be very friendly anymore....and there goes my dream camera.

i think the price should exceed 6D.
and yes Pro-body should strictly reserved for 1 Series only.
