As a general rule of thumb, if the monitor has H/V 178/178 degrees viewing angles, its likely a IPS panel (can be of diff variants) but may not necessary display 100% colour. For eg, a mac 27" LED backlit monitor although using IPS panel, gives ~87%. People in labs tends to do correction unless otherwise advice, but as long as u like the results, then thats ok.

I have the Tokina 28-70 also, F mount. Quality not good le. The funny thing was when i bot it back then, the shop didn't want to sell me the Nikkor AFD 28-70, but instead told me Tokina is comparable & has the same resolution as the real thing. After using it, found that its far from the real thing, bot a Nikkor 28-105 later, & surprisingly its better than the Tokina. HAHAHAHA!!!

My monitor is the Samsung PX2370 which is 100% sRGB. Will get my friend to do some calibration but need to save original setting because I like what I see as I visit the FM alternate forum more often.

Seldom use my Tokina 2870 but seems to be pretty good value on my 5D. I hate AF inaccuracy and prefer not to use it if possible. I prefer my OM 35-70f3.6 manual zoom for travels accompanied by an OM 24f2.8 and my Zeiss 85f1.4.

Got the specs from samsung

The viewing angles of 170 Hor/ 160 Vert confirm its a normal TN variant type of screen. But its ok, as long as u feel comfy with that. ;)

Thats a very good combo for travel. Long long time ago, my dream travel kit was the Contax G2 with 28, 45 & 90mm primes. HAHAHAHA!! How things have changed over the yrs.

I am having the dilemma of changing my 550D to a 60D... :embrass::embrass:

Hey man... just my opinion... I think u should stick to your 550D. In terms of image quality, both 550D and 60D is about the same. Of course 60D got certain advantages such as 9 AF, faster FPS, swivel screen, etc... If you always take fast moving objects or have lens that are heavy or less than F2.8, then 60D is more useful for ya. I would rather u use your ammo on more glasses instead. :-D

Just to share... happen to take a very sharp shot during my company futsal competition...

On glass, I've already finished with a setup I always wanted.

Now, to the body. Most probably I will get the 60D with battery grip original by Canon.

Hehe! If that is the case then welcome to the Canon 60D user group!!! :-D

Those are amazing photos Postal! The more photos I see of this camera, the more impressed I am.

I think the 60D is a good decision that will not disappoint. What will you do with your 550D, use it as a backup?

Very impressive! I especially liked the 2nd photo with the inset of the bird.

Which lens were you using?

Good night photo of the Eiffel Tower!

Thanx ;)

I'm only bringing 2 lenses,
17-40mm and 70-200mm f/4

Birds using 70-200mm f/4, just trying the servo performance and continuous burst

Wow, me jealous you get to bring your new 60D all the way to Europe to test it!
I can only test in Singapore leh....

Actually, I bought it in Europe ;)

Probably I'm one of the early owner who buy it in Europe,
the store that I get the unit said that it is the first batch and I'm the first one :bsmilie:

No regret on getting it first, most of it as expected ;)

Are the prices about the same in Europe?

It's more expensive,
but the store in Indonesia doesn't sell it yet

Like I said,
no regret on getting it at first ;)

Just curious....
For those of you who have upgraded from the 500D/550D (or earlier), what are your impressions of the new 60D? Was it worth the upgrade or is your experience with the 60D about the same as with your older camera?

Honestly speaking, even after the repositioning of the xx line, there still is a considerable difference between the xxx and xx series in terms of build quality. It just really feels more solid.

Even the shutter sound feels more solid. :p I brought the camera on the trip to Aussie, the zoo, and the blue mountains and used the flip out LCD quite alot there. An old man using 5DmkII was complaining about needing to squat, and his back giving problems. :p Didn't mind if he wanted to swap cameras though. :D

I personally can justfify the upgrade, but I really think only you can answer that question if it's worth the upgrade from your existing camera. All camera's can take excellent photos, it just makes it a tad easier.

Just a few questons:

1. From which camera did you upgrade?
2. Have you found an improvement in IQ from your old camera to the 60D?
3. When you say that it is easier to take a photo, did you mean the flip out LCD or are there other aspects?
4. How can the shutter feel more solid?
:)

Actually for this 60D, among the APS-C Crop Bodies, I specifically love this body the most.. But somehow, I'm not sure why when I mentioned "60D", people will tend to say it's lousy, blah.. blah.. buy 50D better...

Well, I am not affected by them, and still, the 60D is on my mind for my next upgrade.

Generally after spending a few weeks with the 60D, I will have to say that it is a great upgrade from my previous 400D which I had borrowed from someone. So the 60D is my 1st DSLR and I had paired it with a EFS 17-55 F2.8. The camera is a good camera for a family man like me who needs to push the stroller, carry shopping bags and sometimes my daughter. The size and weight is good for me.

The distinctive difference between the 400D and 60D is the image quality because of the higher resolution which allows you to crop your photo during post-production. As for focusing speed, it is just slightly faster and search lesser under low light. The swivel screen is helpful when you need to capture challenging angles and during video recording.

Over the weekend, I had used the 60D to document the behind-the-scene of my cousin's wedding like how the videographer and photographer at work....quite fun coz it is a different perspective of wedding and you can get to see the funny NGs. The videographers were using the 2 units of 7D and they really find the swivel screen attractive to them.

Generally I am happy with the photos, video will be a bit more challenging because the auto-focusing is absent and has very noisy video under low-light....low light as in when a ballroom is dimmed down for the wedding march and 1st dish march.

So for anyone who wants to upgrade from the recent xxxD, I am not sure if you will see a bigger difference as compared to my upgrade. For desire...just buy...for performance....think about it....

Some just want to have the latest and best in hand, so comparing is unavoidable. For the critical ones, they will make the additional effort to study the chipset and other unnecessary matters which I think most consumer will not bother with. And some just buy and talk so much but no photo to show.....quite sad :(

60D is not lousy... just that it is something that many people cannot accept. By right 60D is suppose to replace 50D... hence, specification wise in all areas should be improved... Instead, 60D is on par with 50D... some features downgraded... some features upgraded. That's why when it was first announced... the majority of the people don't like 60D.

However, when the price is first announced, it is already an indication that Canon is planning the lower the position of xxD and distance the gap between xxD and 7D. Great marketing plans for entry level users as a semi-pro model becomes more affordable... it makes lots of sense for entry level users to upgrade to 60D. For xxD users... Canon is trying to lure them to get the 7D instead... dunno is that a good or bad news for xxD users but definitely 7D is a great upgrade for xxD users...

Put it this way... if 60D is better than 50D in all aspects namely FPS, micro adjustment, magnesium body, AF points, etc... then what happen to the sales of 7D? It will definitely drop as xxD users will opts for 60D instead... and entry level users will have a more difficult choice if 60D is priced around $1600+ for the body only...
