I think it is for still only... seems like highlight tone priority will be helpful if the exposure is over expose... it can retain some details... if it is disabled... activating the auto lighting thingy... it makes photo brighter...

the functions are about the same... but 7D can customize more... :-D

I see.... something new for me so far... I think have to do more reading when I get my cam..... :)

Oh.... I am not familiar with the Nikons and thought the D700 is same as the 7D.....

The D700 is a new model right???

The Nikon D700 has been around for a while... it was introduced on July 1, 2008.

The D700 is a full frame camera and competes directly against the Canon 5D Mk II. :)

The availability of the Nikon D7000 is beginning in stores in a few overseas countries. No sample images yet available on Imaging Resource to compare with the Canon 60D.

No worries Halfmoon... Nikon got serious problems with counting...
D40 and D60 is entry level...
D3000 and D5000 is entry level too...
D90 is semi pro... but D7000 is semi pro too...
D300s is semi pro... (higher end like canon 7D)
D700 is full frame...
D3s is like Canon 1D...

No idea what is the difference between got "s" or no "s"...

It took me quite a while to understand Nikon range... haha!

What r u looking for in the K5 vs 60D/7D comparison? Arty images? Technical qualities like colour charts & AF speed/tracking, etc? Or combo? Arty stuff anyone can do & they r also subjective. Technical qualities too blend, dun u think?

Hi nightpiper, I use only old manual legacy lenses on my Canon 5D which is a very satisfying combination and set-up that I don't wish to change. The old lenses give me special characters that I can't find in the modern Canon lenses, even in the L series which I owned before. I have some modified Pentax lenses which can be reversed if need to, that's why I have a tendancy to look at the K5, not as a back-up but to switch back to APS-C. I prefer the feel and look of Pentax on Pentax better than Canon on Canon. Unfortunately, I also love Pentax on Canon, so my decision may still be with the 60D. I don't need all the modern bells and whistles except the advantage of high and clean ISO. Will now look at the 60D seriously again after the 'Postal" high ISO test. If I choose the 60D, I will definitely retain my 5D as that's my intention before the release of the K5. Going Pentax also has it's advantages for me as then, the whole range of Pentax old legacy lenses will be open to me including the M42 range, unlike Canon. The 7D was never a consideration as I cannot change the focusing screen unlike the 60D.

I see what u r looking for. Exotic glass on 60D. Things like Leica, Zeiss, Schneider, etc on the Canon body to see how it renders overall IQ. But also do rem the PP plays a big part too, u may get a similar result w/o the hassle. Save the settings & its a file-click away for batch process

Suddenly I feel very stress.... wahaha! BTW, how ya want me to do the ISO test? Never did it before so need advices from u guys... MF, manually set the white balance, aperture F/8, Av mode I assume, 10 seconds delay cause I dun have remote.... anything else I should take note of?

To me photography should not be with PP as I am not adquate in that area. Still, there are infinite differences that PP will never be able to achieve, otherwise, Leica and Zeiss will be obselete long ago. Since the launch of 60D, apart from your innitial posting, I have still to see some photos that will catch my attention. This tends to confirm my believe that I will never like Canon lenses on Canon body because there is something missing, unlike the last few days when the K5 was launched and I have seen many photos that I like. Maybe. it's just me.

To demostrate a simple example, the photo below was shot with a S$300 Pentax lens on my 5D, nothing spectacular, but just pleasing.

The pic looks very red & highly saturated. Reminds me of Agfa 50 film. Nothing wrong of cos, juz personal taste. But i find the Canon lens acceptable le. The Zeiss & Leica will have certain physical qualities that can't be dup in PP, but some of it can be simulated lor. I like to use manual lenses long ago, but as age catches up, i tend to rely on tech more like AF.

Here r 2 samples i feel is ok

Like I said, it may just be my taste. Your first photo is the standard Canon look, very flat and the corners look very wash out. I prefer it with better subject isolation and better quality bokeh. Here is another example with a S$ 250 lens, the OM 50f1.4 on 5D.

Ah yes, u need big aperture if u want that kind of bokeh & isolation. For me memory shots only (kids), no need for that kind of isolation. Judging from the comment, i boldly presume ur monitor can't produce 100% aRGB colour gamut & also not calibrated. What monitor u using?

My only subject isolation from the trip :)

Lucky i use AF, once i snap the bird flew away. Its those impromtu moments. HAHAHAHA!!!

I use a Sumsung 23" bought just recently. My son does everything for me, lucky I know how to use the system as I am 64. Don't understand what's 100% aRGB. Your photos look better in the night but still different from what I saw those on the Pentax forum shot with the K5 with also cheap lenses. What lens did you use for these photos?

When I bought my 40D in Jan 2009, I tested it against the 50D and prefered the image rendering of the 40D. I have used my friends 7D and also do not like the rendering. My brother bought the 60D on the first day of its launch and I told him his photos are very ordinary. Here is one with my 40D and I think it was the Zeiss Planar 50f1.7 and you can see the difference from what I am seeing here including your photos. Can it be my monitor? It's not just about the color but the presence of the subject.

Postal,

May I know what metering you use? Have you tried partial or center weighted metering?

I used evaluative... normally I would use exposure compensation or manual mode if I find it too dark or too bright... So I seldom use the other metering methods...

Can you do me a favor and shoot one photo of the same setting, go nearer if possible, handhold at ISO 800, F2.8 in M mode with partial metering, center point only, metered against the 3 bottles. Thanks.

Hey Postal the 60D shows promising potential at high ISO!

But the WB seems way off. Maybe you can correct it manually in your next shoot instead of AWB?
