Made my trip down to AP SL today and close the deal at $1410. Cash inclusive of GST.

The 60D just got my nod of approval. It felt very good in my hands, and the articulating screen is very pretty. Not to mention fast AF during live view. A pity I have already upgraded to 7D and 5D, else 60D will be a very useful camera.

Sell your camera. Problem solved. Jk.

I second that. The more reviews we get from different users/owners, the better informed we will be.

I got the 60D as well... what do u guys need to know?

anyone know?

I believe 50D and 60D price is very close to each other... think 50D if more expensive by $50 according to the price guide... hehe!

Hi postal, i wanna know sth about the 60D. The dial beside the top LCD, do you have difficulty turning it at certain angles of your finger? My 500D one is pretty smooth, but i tried the 60D in vivo and its pretty stiff and gets stuck at some point..

Or can you tell us what you like and dislike about ergonomics or the features available? Thanks a lot!

Just my opinion... if u are thinking of getting 550D or 60D... and have been playing DSLR for quite some time... go for 60D...

no matter what 60D belongs to the professional range and hence u can shoot much faster with more buttons available, faster buffer so u dun have to load too long, better grip and heavier to accommodate your lens collection... and it is about $300+ more than 550D which IMO pretty worth the upgrade... FYI I never used RAW for my 1000D as I am pretty worried the camera is unable to take the load. For 60D, I feel more confident in taking RAW...

50D users looking for upgrades... just go for 7D... 60D is quite parallel with 50D in term of specs... IMO there is not much benefits to buy 60D in place of 50D unless u totally love the swivel screen... Used 60D less than a week but have never really used the swivel screen... it is using contract AF so unless totally necessary I will not be using it...

What is your impression of the IQ?

Actually I find it similar to my 1000D... my cousin is using 500D as well and erm... cannot tell any difference between both 1000D and 500D..

So far my favorite part is actually where they place the battery compartment... haha! I am using hand grip and tripod so whenever I need to put battery I need to take out the plate for the hand grip and tripod. 60D place the battery compartment in the rightmost corner, just nice after the plate.

One more thingy I like is the AEB... for 1000D I have dig through the menu in order to do that. For 60D, press the Q button, navigate to the exposure compensation, then turn the scroll wheel to adjust the AEB. The secondary wheel will adjust single exposure setting...

The navigation dial is sensitive but it doesn't erm.... feel shiok pressing it. The secondary scroll dial as well... not as shiok as 50D, 7D etc... The quality is about the same as entry level model... Definitely usable... just that don't have the professional feeling.. haha!

Not bad... with 18 MP... I can do tons of cropping... wahaha! I believe got many reviews comparing 550D, 60D and 7D... 60D and 7D perform slightly better in the super high ISO segment...

May i know what is contract AF?

The IQ is supposedly as good as the 550D and the 7D so you should not be too worried.

Oops... contrast I mean... usable but not advisable... haha! If not wrong it is not very accurate if using less than F/2.8...

Postal,

Can i ask you why you say 60D belongs to the professional range? I thought that the professional range are the 1 series. Even the 5 series is one level below the professional range of 1 series camera in Canon's portfolio.

My bad... The term should be semi-professional?

How do you find normal AF and live-view contrast based AF? Are they accurate for your lens?

Also, have you tried auto AF point selection on a flat contrasting target? What kind of results are you getting?

Has anyone seen any Nikon D7000's in stores yet? I wonder how the IQ of the D7000 compares to the IQ of the Canon 60D.

The Canon G12 appears to beat the Nikon P7000 in IQ at 3200 ISO as follows:

G12-vs-P7000-at-3200-ISO.jpg

Will the D7000 follow the same pattern? Anybody have comparative photos to demonstrate?

The normal AF is pretty fast and accurate... use it with Sigma 50 F1.4 wide open and it is still pretty sharp... contrast wise I haven't taken a shot yet... Looks ok just that is pretty slow...

I will try later on my mahjong table... wahaha! Let u guys know later... Pai seh ahh... now busy with the star search competition... ;)

Guess Canon compact cams have better NR algorithm than Nikon's equivalent. Nikon relies quite a bit on in-camera RAW NR in order to achieve the results in their DSLRs. Naturally, such privileges are stripped when it comes to compact Sony CCDs.

Have seen some D7000 high ISO jpeg images. Hardly impressive. But I need side-by-side RAW comparison before any conclusion can be drawn.
