Why are you so sure? It looks good on paper yes, but the price is also higher than the 60D. Its just that nikon chose to bridge the gap from their d90(4.5 (d90) to 6(d7000) to 8(d300s)) to the d300/d300s. On the other hand, the canon already has a camera equivalent to the d7000, which is the 50D, shooting at 6.3FPS.

Other than a 100% live view and a dual SD card slots, which are basically cosmetic differences to me at least, they are about the same specs wise. Any higher than 50D would be the 7D already.

If the implemented the 60D with 100% VF and dual SD card slots, 6.x FPS and whatnot, the 50D will be crushed entirely. And there will be a hell lot of overlap in specs, which is honestly, a bad idea.

i am not so sure... i am VERY sure!;) and it doesn't only "look good " on paper... it is impressively good in action. (check out chase jarvis nikon D7000 shot at 3200 ISO.).

50D cannot be compared to D7000 if you're only saying that it has the same FPS...:thumbsd:

and yes, 2 card slots really help, especially when you want to separate your jpeg shots from your RAW... not to say if you have to shoot a lot. cosmetically, i would say it's the weather sealing and the magnesium alloy body compared to 60D's Plastic finish.

and finally, 39 focus points with 9 cross-types is a real big help especially when you shoot streets.

these are my personal opinions though, everything else is up to whose reading it. i rest my case!;)

I doubt you guys know what is cross type and non cross type b4 the launch of mark iv, whr the manufacturer make the big hoohah, to tell the world that their focusing system has the most number cross type sensor (is it really better? check yourself online, i do not want to comment on the performance). Before this, does it stop everyone from taking good photos?
Cross type doesn't make the line type focusing sensor useless. It works! no matter whr it is located, and shooting still object, it's more than enough.

More is defitenitely a bonus! useful or not it's up to individual. To me, it's good to have, eventhough 90% of the time, center point is sufficient, but it is there when i need it 10% of the time.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

went to try out the new 60D today.. no offense but the overall feel of the camera to me is.. :thumbsd:

the camera feels like a toy cam and the shutter sound made it worst.

Did you get a chance to take any photos with it? If so, what did you think of the IQ?

and just to add on, the whole camera is like plastic. the LCD dont seem sturdy too. :kok:

i actually went to the shop to try hehe so IQ cant comment much. :(

I went to Canon shop at vivocity today to test the 60D there, thinking i could upgrade my 50D if it was good.

To cut a long story short, i think i will stick with my 50D.

The 60D was fitted with a 18-200mm lens.
I spent almost 30mins playing with the camera.

Pros:
1. Tried the live view focuses and shoots much better than the 50D.
But then again i seldom use live view to shoot.

2. Articulating screen.
The screen display is very clear.

3. Wireless Speedlight control!
This is great! But then again my rather cheap poverty wizards can also do this...

4. It has video!
Wow....but then again i seldom shoot video even on my 5d2...

Cons:
1. Really felt that i dont like the idea that it uses SD cards as i already invested in 4 CF cards.

2. Handling wise i really dont like the fact that it does not have a joystick.
The Q button and 4 way controller were usable, but kinda stiff.
The scroll wheel is harder to turn than on the 50D.
May take some time getting used to.
Considering that i have a 5d2 and the 50d is so similar in terms of the buttons, i am worried that i might get confused.

3. The safetly lock feature when changing modes from P to Av ect is very stiff.

4. Cant see any improvement in the noise department. For the 50D i try not to shoot above 1000 ISO. 60D i also feel i wouldnt go above 1000.

Other thoughts:
1. The Auto ISO max feature was something i always thought was lacking in the 50d and 5d2.
But after testing the 60d, i felt that perhaps this feature was not very necessary after all.
Probably only usefull when there are fast changes to lighting conditions.
But then again any photographer worth his salt would adjust his ISO accordingly.

2. The lack of the microadjust feature is no biggie.
Can always go to Canon to calibrate.
Never had a problem with this.

3. With the 50d i can use my left hand to control some of the buttons.
For the 60d all the buttons are controlled by the right hand.
Feel that it is somewhat unbalanced...

Sad to say...i wont be upgrading :(
feels more like a downgrade actually...

Yup the 60D is already out and its sits nicely and brand new at the canon vivo city show room. honestly the 60D grip is so much better than my old 50D! :D and the LCD screen is really sharp plus the ability to shot in different aspect ratio is a bonus (1:1, 4:3, 16:9) its fantastic. :D

I can only say, everyone is entitled to their own comments. A new camera, albeit controversial in this case, won't and should not please everyone. At least we can to hear both sides of the story from the 50d users :)

fyi, canon is still making their products in a logical numbering. i think nikon really screwed up their number system on their dslr. lol! take the d7000 which being better than the d90 series while actually the dxx series should be better than the dxxxx series :bsmilie:

D7000 is to replace D90. they are only changing the numbering from Dxx to Dxxxx.

I was looking through Nikon forum and the price of D7000 body could be around $1700... about $300 plus more than Canon 60D... If that is the case then D7000 doesn't sounds like a good deal after all... $300 more for dual slots, slightly more fps, mag body, more AF points... and erm... dunno what else...

RRP i guess?

Of course the 60D is cheaper than the 50D was when the latter was released! those are two different things, one body (50D) is meant to be used by the advanced amateur/semi-prof, the other (60D) is to be used by the advanced beginner/entry whatever u call it.

One thing, however, we should keep in mind, it was always Canon's sort of custom to give new releases of lower level a little edge over older bodies of a higher series. That we know since the release of the 450D. So nothing new here.

But again, the 60D is not an upgrade to the xxD series which ended with the 50D, and which , btw, is still a great body I happened to use until 2 weeks ago for 2 years or so. Now, with me specializing in sports photography I upgraded not to the 60D but to the only logical option: 7D.

I say the 60D shud be renamed to 600D to show her true roots, but that would have been too close to the 550D and I feel Canon believed that there was a gap to be filled between 50D and 7D. Maybe at Canon someone just counted from 5 to 7...

What is the going street price of the 50D vs. 60D now (for a new retail package)?

Hey, i'm a 500D user thinking of upgrading to 60D, so played with the vivo set
How could they put 60D display set same row as 7D and 5d?..after playing with the 2 big guns, the 60D felt so "ordinary"...in terms of the grip feel and shutter sound and the machine gun ability...sorry, first time "molesting" 7D and 5d....
anyway the on/off button felt not refined and not so effortlessly turned, same for the mode dial, the adjustment wheel for iso etc felt worse than my 500D, like it's loose??maybe due to abuse..and adjustments on the directional scroll wheel didn't feel so precise as dedicated directional buttons...just my feel of it...make me less gian now....maybe wait some more for price drop....to $1300?? in 3mths?hahaha

Hehe... no matter what 60D still belongs to the professional camera category... compare to a entry level model, it has a better buffer speed, maybe faster AF, better body in terms of grip and size and all buttons are easily available so u can do adjustment much faster. Was a 1000D user and I have to dig through the menu to change some settings... like AEB, noise reduction etc. Remember when ya wanna take a 30s exposure and have to wait very long before it loads the photo? Now 60D is much faster. :-D

The adjustment wheel feel the same leh... comparing to my 1000D... the directional buttons is pretty sensitive but the touch of it doesn't feel erm.... professionally built. Haha! The second scroll wheel definitely lose to 50D or 7D... not as smooth as previous xxD models...

BTW, the AF seems much faster compared to entry level model... works great with L lens... 3rd party seems much slower...

The 60D just got my nod of approval. It felt very good in my hands, and the articulating screen is very pretty. Not to mention fast AF during live view. A pity I have already upgraded to 7D and 5D, else 60D will be a very useful camera.
